Switzerland will be without captain and record goalscorer Alexander Frei for the remainder of Euro 2008 due to injury.
Frei limped out of Switzerland's 1-0 curtain-raising defeat to Czech Republic at St Jakob-Park and it has now been confirmed that the Borussia Dortmund star will be sidelined for the rest of the tournament.
The 28-year-old left the field in Basel in tears shortly before the half-time interval following a collision with Czech defender Zdenek Grygera and hospital scans have since identified a partial rupture of internal left knee ligaments.
Switzerland boss Kobi Kuhn has had his worst fears confirmed as he is forced to do without Frei, who has scored 35 goals in 59 appearances for Switzerland to make him his country's all-time leading goalscorer.
The Euro 2008 co-hosts face Turkey on Wednesday before taking on Portugal in their final group game on 15th June.
