France and Serbia fought out a frustrating draw in Belgrade, as did Austria in Bucharest.

France were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw against Group Seven leaders Serbia in a match where both sides finished with 10 men.

French keeper Hugo Lloris was shown red after just nine minutes on the pitch causing chaos for Raymond Domenech who has been under increasing pressure at the helm.

Lloris' dismissal led to Serbia's penalty which Nenad Milijas duly buried to give Serbia the advantage.

Their lead did not last long, though, as Thierry Henry stepped up to level the scoreline on the half-hour mark.

Substitute Danko Lazovic was shown red in stoppage time leaving Serbia to see out the remaining minutes with ten men.

The result sees Radomir Antic's side stay top of the group, four points clear of France who stay in second place.

Closing in

Austria could only manage a 1-1 draw against Romania leaving them still four points adrift of second-place France.

The Austrians, who will face Domenech's side in their final qualifying match, were forced to come from behind after Gheorghe Bucur struck just before the hour mark.

Franz Schiemer made sure of a crucial point for Austria who continue to press for qualification.

Arnbiorn Hansen secured a rare win for the Faroe Islands, dashing Lithuania's faint hopes of qualifying from Group Seven.

The Lithuanians were left heartbroken when Hansen added to Suni Olsen's opener, turning Tomas Danilevic's first-half equaliser into a mere consolation.

The win was Brian Kerr's team's first World Cup qualifying win since their September 2001 victory over Luxembourg.
