Frantisek Straka's tenure as Czech Republic coach has been halted after just one game at the helm.

Straka, who was appointed on a temporary basis only one month ago, won his only match in charge, claiming a 1-0 friendly success over Malta on 5th June.

He had been brought in to replace Petr Rada, who paid the price for poor results in World Cup qualifying, with the Czechs currently fourth in Group Three, seven points off top spot.

Incoming Czech Football Federation (CMFS) head Ivan Hasek informed Straka that his services were no longer required.

Hasek told reporters: "I thanked him for his work and told him the CMFS would not be keeping him in his post."

The two were team-mates at Sparta Prague and were also part of the national team squad for the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Football Federation spokesman Vaclav Tichy stated that the new coach is expected to be named next week, with Hasek reported to be keen to appoint Slavia Prague boss Karel Jarolim.
