Didier Drogba is unable to inspire Galatasaray to victory over Schalke as the German club grab a vital away goal in a 1-1 draw in their Champions League last 16 first leg. Yilmaz's seventh goal of the 2012/13 competition in the first half opened the scoring but Schalke hit back with a counter-attack on the stroke of half-time through Jermaine Jones to take an important away goal back to Germany for the second leg. Stay with us for the full match report.
The German club will now be confident of qualifying for the the quarter-finals when they welcome Galatasaray in three weeks.

Great chance for Yilmaz inside the penalty area after being found by an excellent Drogba header. But the striker pulls his half-volley wide of the far post.
Galatasaray really have approached this second half in a strange manner. Their play has been horribly one-paced in comparison with their fast attacks of the first half.
A second goal could be there for the taking for Schalke but Huntelaar will not be the man to score it. He is replaced after that miss. Pukki comes on.
Draxler now has an excellent moment as he gets to the byline and picks out Huntelaar with his cross. Huntelaar, six yards from goal, volleys over the crossbar. That was a good chance.
There were concerns before the game that Drogba might not have been fully match fit. But he has looked like his old self tonight.
A throw-in to Galatasaray deep in Schalke territory is headed on by Drogba before being punched away by Hildebrand. But Galatasaray keep the pressure on and win a corner.
Draxler skips away from a couple of challenges close to the halfway line but then trips over the ball. The teenager is highly-rated but that has summed up his game.

Farfan applauds an attempted pass from Howedes down the inside left channel even though the ball is well over hit.
Amrabat has been on the pitch less than three minutes but has already been booked for clattering Farfan.
Sneijder has been ineffectual in the first half. But it is not yet clear if the change is due to injury or simply tactics.

Galatasaray look for an immediate response. Drogba has a free-kick around 25 yards from goal but he hits it straight at Hildebrand.
Schalke have a crucial away goal. Nounkeu gave the ball away in midfield and Schalke broke. Farfan burst down the right and spotted Jones in acres of space in the centre of the penalty area. Jones smashed his first-time shot past Muslera.
Farfan sends a free-kick towards the Galatasaray box from close to the halfway line. But he under hits the delivery and Howedes stands no chance when attempting to flick the ball on.
This has been a good game. It has not been cagey at all and both sides are looking to attack. Schalke have been trying to expose Galatasaray in wide areas, with the hosts having their wide-men tucked into central midfield.
Hildebrand again has to be sharp off the mark to grab the ball before Yilmaz, who had made a forward run into the Schalke penalty area.
Drogba drops into his own half to win his team a throw-in. He has been showing all of his characteristic strength when holding the ball up tonight. There are signs of a good partnership with Yilmaz.
The corner comes to nothing and Schalke attack. But Riera does well when tackling Huntelaar, who was attempting a double step-over.
Drogba links up with Yilmaz again to give the latter a chance to run in on goal. Hildebrand has to come off his line and deflect Yilmaz's shot for a corner.
As we approach half-time, Galatasaray are still being outplayed in central midfield. That is surprising when considering how many men in they have in central areas.
Huntelaar has had a frustrating first half and that is epitomised as he gives away a free-kick when pushing Melo when competing for a header.
Jones is booked for, seemingly for waving an imaginary yellow card, when being challenged by Inan. Jones will now be suspended for the second leg.

Galatasaray send a cross into the box from the right and Yilmaz is within inches of getting his head on the ball.
Schalke are certainly passing the ball a lot better than Galatasaray in central midfield. But they have just lacked a clinical touch inside the penalty area. Farfan cannot stop the ball going out of play for a goal-kick.
Galatasaray's defending is again a bit of a mess at the Schalke corner. But they eventually manage to get the ball out of play on the far side for a throw-in.

Farfan swivels and shots over the crossbar from around eight yards out. It would not have counted anyway as an offside call was made in the build-up.
Sneijder sends a fairly tame effort wide of the near post after shooting from the right-hand corner of the Schalke box. He slipped as he shot. A lot of players have been slipping as the pitch cuts up.
Yilmaz is down after dropping deep to hold up the ball and taking a whack from behind in the process. There is a break in play for him to receive treatment.
Schalke are having the better of possession at the moment but Galatasaray are capable of breaking at pace.

Muslera is booked for trying to tell referee Collum that Huntelaar should have been booked for kicking the ball away after running offside.
Schalke have responded well to go behind and are looking for an immediate equaliser. But that was a bad miss from Huntelaar.
Schalke earn two corners in quick succession. From the second set-piece, Huntelaar somehow does not connect with the ball at the back post after Howedes had headed the ball on with an open goal in front of him.
It was a poor goal to concede from a Schalke perspective. They were carved open through the heart of their midfield and defence.
The star striker scores his seventh goal of the Champions League campaign. Drogba was involved in the build-up but it is Inan who plays the through ball. Yilmaz's first touch is perfect as he skilfully flicks the ball on and he holds off the Schalke defence before finishing.
Drogba has had to work on scraps so far. Schalke have started well but then Jones gives the ball away.
After a lengthy period of possession, Schalke send a cross into the box from the right. But Muslera's handling is perfect as he claims the ball under pressure from Huntelaar.
Galatasaray are trying to squeeze the midfield. Sneijder is playing on the left but is very tight into a central area.
Riera will be a familiar name to fans of Manchester city and Liverpool. The Spaniard is playing at left-back for Galatasaray after being reinvented in that position.
Shrill whistles from the home Galatasaray fans meet any period of Schalke possession. There is a typically hostile atmosphere in Turkey. Farfan strays offside as Schalke attempt to attack.
Galatasaray are not happy that a free-kick is awarded against Sarioglu on the edge of the Schalke box.

It is a very good start from Schalke. Jones cuts in from the left and his shot across the face of goal has to be palmed away by Muslera.

James Thokchom says: "It's good to see Drogba in a big tournament like the Champions league. It will be more exciting if he scores today."
Drogba has already made an impact at Galatasaray, scoring as a substitute last Friday in a victory over Akhisar Belediyespor in what was his competitive debut.
Schalke, though, have been struggling in the Bundesliga and in December 2012 replaced boss Huub Stevens with Jens Keller. This will be Keller's Champions League debut as a boss.
Schalke are unbeaten away from home in this season's Champions League and finished above Arsenal in Group B when qualifying for the last 16. Fatih Terim's Galatasaray finished runners-up to Manchester United in Group H after winning their last three matches.
Galatasaray are marginal favourites for this game with Sky Bet, with Didier Drogba, who has scored seven goals in his last nine Champions League appearances, priced at 5/1 to score first. Overall, Schalke are 8/13 on to qualify for the next stage.
