Gillingham vs Portsmth
Sky Bet League One
2:30pm Sunday 8th October
GILLINGHAM 0-1 PORTSMOUTH
FULL-TIME! It's all over at Priestfield. Three points for Pompey thanks to Matty Kennedy's strike.
90+4: Portsmouth with the ball in the corner now. Time almost out for Gillingham.
90: Four minutes added on.
86: YELLOW! Ehmer goes into the book after bringing down Kennedy. The Portsmouth man has been excellent today.
82: SUBS! More changes for Portsmouth as Kyle Bennett makes way for Gareth Evans. While Danny Rose replaces Ben Close.
81: Frustration spilling over now as Parker lines up a long throw, but then fails to even beat the first man with it. Poor.
77: Gillingham had a little bit of momentum a few minutes ago but it's all pretty much dissipated now. They've used all their changes so it's up to the XI on the pitch to try and get them a result now.
74: YELLOW! Thompson goes into the book for Portsmouth after sliding in late on List.
73: What a waste for Pompey. A swift counter that should have led to a real chance for them swiftly peters out and ends up coming to nothing. Real lack of swiftness cost them there.
71: Gillingham having a good spell now, but there's no way through the Portsmouth back line.
67: SUBS! Darren Oldaker replaces Sean Clare for Gillingham, while Dion Donohue makes way for Brandon Haunstrup for Portsmouth.
66: DISALLOWED! Gillingham have the ball in the back of the net as Parker pokes home from close range, but he's just, just offside.
WATCH: POMPEY'S OPENER
Here's how Portsmouth took the lead just after half-time...
61: CLOSE! Kennedy clearly feeling confident now as he attempts an ambitious pop from the angle on the edge of the area, but it flashes just over the bar.
59: Portsmouth pretty much in control now as we approach the final third of the game. Only one goal in it though...
57: SUB! Another change for Gillingham as Elliot List replaces Lee Martin.
51: SHOT! Kennedy clearly in the mood now as he has a pop from outside the area. But it's a long way over the bar.
49: Portsmouth have their tails up now as they push for a quick second. This will be a real test of Gillingham's confidence and resolve now.
GOAL! GILLINGHAM 0-1 PORTSMOUTH (Kennedy, 46)
We have a goal! And it's come less than a minute after the restart. A brilliant ball into the box by Thompson is headed onto the post by Main, but the ball bounces straight back out to Matthew Kennedy, who shows good composure to fire the ball home.
GILLINGHAM 0-0 PORTSMOUTH
SECOND HALF! We're back underway.
HALF-TIME! Goalless at the break at Priestfield.
45+2: YELLOW! Clarke into the booking for Portsmouth after a late lunge on Clare.
45+1: Three minutes of added time.
45: SUB! An injury to Ben Nugent sees him replaced by Jack Tucker for Gillingham.
43: CHANCE! Parker presented with a great ball by Martin at the far post, but it's a tough opportunity for the Gillingham man on the volley from the angle, and he scuffs it wide.
40: Five minutes until the break...
37: CHANCE! Clarke attacks a corner brilliantly on the dive, but he sends his header just wide for Portsmouth.
34: PENALTY SHOUT! Clare then feels he's taken out by Hawkins in the box and wants a penalty, but the ref is having none of it.
33: A moment that sums up Gillingham's season so far. Ehmer turns and shoots just inside the box, and it looks like it may be heading for goal until it hits his own team-mate Clare.
30: Half an hour gone and it's been a fairly quiet game so far. Portsmouth just about edging it so far.
27: CLOSE! First sight of goal for Gillingham as Bingham takes a free-kick and swings it just over the bar. Unlucky.
23: Almost a great chance for Portsmouth as Bennett twists and turns before firing the ball low across the box, but there are no takers and it flies all the way through.
20: SAVE! Portsmouth turning the heat up now as they start to pile pressure on Gllingham. A good spell sees the ball fall to Close on the edge of the box, but his strike is kept out well by Holy.
17: SHOT! Kennedy turn inside on the edge of the area and tries to bend one into the top corner, but it's straight at Gillingham goalkeeper Holy.
16: Hang on. It's not back in yet. The kitman has called in reinforcements. Never thought it would be so difficult.
Back in the actual game there's not a lot going on.
15: And then the Gillingham kitman heads around to try and get the corner flag back in place. Big cheer when he manages it.
The chant "Easy, Easy" rings around Priestfield.
13: Short break in play as Gillingham goalkeeper Holy tries to fit the dislodged corner flag back into its slot. He can't quite manage it, though, before giving up, much to the amusement of the crowd. Real lack of incision there.
10: Portsmouth without top scorer Brett Pitman today, and they'll need a good performance from Bennett today if they're going to create any chances. He's taken up some good positions so far but yet to have any real influence.
6: Lively start but a lack of goalmouth action so far.
3: Bit of a let-off for Portsmouth there as McGee rushes to the edge of his area to try and clear a ball, and ends up clattering into WIlkinson.
The ball then runs loose but no Gillingham player can get a shot at the unguarded goal before the whistle blows.
And here's Gillingham caretaker boss Peter Taylor...
Here's what Kenny Jackett had to say to Sky Sports before kick-off...
KICK-OFF! We're underway at Priestfield.
THE TEAMS ARE OUT!
STORY OF THE MATCH
'POMPEY NEED TIME TO SETTLE'
Portsmouth striker Brett Pitman says the club need some time to settle in Sky Bet League One following their promotion in the summer.
"The club is obviously used to playing at a higher level than League One, and definitely League Two, but there's been a change of management and style of play and these things take time," said the League One Player of the Month for September, who is injured today.
"We're a young team on the whole and I think it'll take a little time to settle down [in League One]. But when the manager gets what he wants and gets his points across about how he wants to play, we'll be a lot better for it."
