Hamburg and Freiburg took a point each from a relegation battle at the HSV-Arena with the visitors understandably much happier with the result.

Vladimir Darida gave Freiburg the lead five minutes after half-time, against the run of play, before Pierre-Michel Lasogga levelled.

Lasogga had missed several chances in the first half and they proved costly as Mirko Slomka's men remained two points adrift of their opponents and still within the bottom three after failing to pick up maximum points at home.

Lasogga was back in the Hamburg team after injury, and he looked particularly keen to make up for the three games he had missed.

He had no fewer than three great chances to open the scoring in the first half, failing first in the 10th minute with a powerful free-kick which he curled round the wall, but Oliver Baumann stretched to turn the ball behind.

His next chance came 10 minutes before the break when he met Rafael van der Vaart's free-kick with his head, but although he beat Baumann this time, he sent the ball just wide of the post.

Just before the interval, he tested Baumann once again, shooting a little too close to the Freiburg goalkeeper to cause any real danger.

Predictably, Freiburg took the lead with their first real chance of the game early in the second half.

Felix Klaus shot against the post from a long throw-in and the ball came out for Darida to sweep inside the left-hand upright.

Freiburg's lead lasted only five minutes before Hamburg, and Lasogga, finally got their goal.

Van der Vaart's shot took a lucky deflection, falling into the path of Lasogga, who curled a shot beyond the reach of Oliver Baumann into the top corner, also with the aid of a deflection.

Hamburg tried to find a winner, but they came up against a reinforced Freiburg defence. Christian Streich's men fought hard and succeeded in holding on for a point which keeps them above the relegation zone.
