Much-fancied Dutch side play host to O'Neill's youngsters

Northern Ireland provide the final pre-tournament opposition for a Holland side fancied by many to claim the Euro 2012 crown. The 2010 World Cup finalists are among the favourites to go all the way at this summer's European Championship, with their squad brimming with world-class talent. They have, however, struggled to live up to expectations in the past and know they need to fulfil their potential soon if a golden generation is to avoid an unwanted underachievers tag. Their recent form has been mixed, with a surprise 2-1 defeat to Bulgaria followed up by a convincing 2-0 victory over Slovakia. Bert van Marwijk is likely to have settled on his strongest side by now, though, with an impressive sweep through the qualification process suggesting he does not have too much to tweak. A home date with Northern Ireland will provide him with an opportunity to make any final alterations to his plans or cast an eye over those on the fringes of his selection thoughts. The visitors, meanwhile, are very much at the rebuilding stage, with coach Michael O'Neill still finding his feet in international management. He has called upon the services of a number of uncapped players for the Dutch date, with it important for the Irish to start piecing together plans for 2014 World Cup qualification. O'Neill saw his reign get off to a forgettable start against Norway in February, as he found himself on the wrong end of a 3-0 defeat, so he will be looking for an improved performance from his troops and hopefully the first goal of his tenure.

    Familiar faces

Holland are not expected to make too many alterations to the side that beat Slovakia on Wednesday, so a number of familiar faces will line up against Northern Ireland. Arsenal striker Robin van Persie is hoping to transfer his fine domestic form in 2011/12 onto the international stage and will want to head into Euro 2012 with confidence flowing. Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben will provide the ammunition for Van Persie, meaning Rafael van der Vaart may be forced to settle for a place on the bench - despite netting against Slovakia. Manchester City midfielder Nigel de Jong and Everton defender John Heitinga could offer Premier League representation in Amsterdam.
    Casualty list
Corry Evans is the latest senior star to drop out of Northern Ireland's plans. The Hull midfielder has been struggling with tonsillitis and has been forced to head home as a result. Evans' brother Jonny also misses out, as do Aaron Hughes, Gareth McAuley, Chris Baird, Chris Brunt and Steven Davis. Davis' absence means the captain's armband will be passed to Sammy Clingan.
