Highlights of the Sky Bet Championship match between Huddersfield and Sheffield Wednesday

A Fernando Forestieri penalty handed Sheffield Wednesday a narrow 1-0 win over Huddersfield Town, who missed the chance to return to the top of the Sky Bet Championship on Sunday.

Huddersfield's 100 per cent home record this season also came to an end, as Wednesday battled to a hard-fought victory in this Yorkshire derby.

Forestieri proved a nuisance throughout, hitting the post after a moment of brilliance just 15 minutes before he slotted home the winning penalty in the 68th minute.

And while the hosts enjoyed the majority of possession, they were unable to break down a stubborn Wednesday defence.

Huddersfield headed into the game knowing a win would take them three points clear of Newcastle and two ahead of Norwich, but it was the visitors who should have taken an early lead after a number of chances in quick succession.

There were cries for handball with the first chance, as Fernando Forestieri found Kieran Lee whose shot was deflected wide.

From the resulting corner, David Jones' cross caused problems for the Wednesday defence before falling back to the midfielder, whose second ball in bounced off the bar and away.

It then fell to Lee, who played a clever one-two with Forestieri before working his way into the box, but his low ball in was just about dealt with after a number of attempts to clear.

Huddersfield went close on a couple of occasions before the break, firstly through Elias Kachunga, but his deflected effort was stopped by Keiren Westwood, who did well to adjust his feet.

Moments later, Palmer forced a smart save from Westwood after cutting onto his left foot from 20 yards out before unleashing a low strike.

Five minutes into the second half, Forestieri brought Adam Reach's long ball down brilliantly between defenders Mark Hudson and Christopher Schindler before dinking the ball over the 'keeper, but it bounced onto the post and away to safety.

The visitors won a penalty shortly after the hour-mark when Rajiv van La Parra was adjudged to have blocked Tom Lees shot with his arms, which were up in an unnatural position.

Forestieri stepped up to hand Wednesday the lead, sending the ball into the top corner with Danny Ward diving the wrong way.

A change of tactics from David Wagner meant Huddersfield played far more direct after going a goal down, and a comedic moment came with five minutes to go when Wednesday's Ross Wallace grabbed a piece of paper with instructions for the hosts.

The chance to equalise did not come for Huddersfield, though the visitors went close to doubling their lead when Liam Palmer was denied by Ward.

The win moves Wednesday up to seventh, while they also become to first club to deny Huddersfield a home league goal since they did so themselves in April.
