Lille battled from a goal down to maintain their European push with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bordeaux.

Lille battled from a goal down to maintain their European push with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Bordeaux at the Grand Stade Lille Metropole this evening. Les Girondins headed into the game looking to arrest a three-game losing run, and took the lead through a Jaroslav Plasil penalty just after the half-hour mark. But Rudi Garcia's side responded well and turned the game on its head thanks to second-half goals from Ronny Rodelin and Salomon Kalou to secure their fourth straight league win and climb to seventh in the standings. Cheick Diabate was inches away from giving the visitors a sixth-minute lead but headed Ludovic Obraniak's cross just over the bar. LOSC, who were knocked out of the Coupe de France by St Etienne in midweek, mustered their first chance nine minutes later, Marvin Martin's volley requiring a decent diving save from Bordeaux goalkeeper Cedric Carasso. The deadlock was broken at the other end in the 31st minute. Franck Beria brought down Benoit Tremoulinas, and Plasil squeezed the resulting spot-kick past Steeve Elana. Francis Gillot's men almost went two goals to the good seven minutes before the interval, but Elana pulled off an excellent reflex save to keep out Diabate's powerful header from Obraniak's corner. Elana again had to be alert in first-half stoppage time to somehow get himself in the way of Obraniak's curling free-kick, which was deflected goalwards by Dimitri Payet. Rodelin should have equalised five minutes into the second period when he found himself through with the goal at his mercy, but he contrived to shoot wide. He made amends eight minutes later, though. Benoit Pedretti sent a cross to the far post after Bordeaux were only able to half clear a corner, and Marko Basa's header fell kindly for Rodelin to power home an unstoppable left-footed volley. Lille sensed blood and Pedretti was again involved just after the hour with a through-ball for Payet, but he sent his low drive narrowly wide. The home fans did not have to wait too much longer for the winning goal, though. In the 72nd minute, Pedretti's cross from the left found Kalou at the far post, and the former Chelsea striker controlled the ball on his chest before displaying superb technique to volley home from close range. Two Bordeaux substitutes combined a minute from time to try to salvage a point for their team, David Bellion freeing Fahid Ben Khalfallah on the edge of the box for the latter to unleash a stunning volley only to see Elana brilliantly tip the ball over the bar to preserve the hosts' lead.
