A controversial late winner for Atletico Madrid condemned Real Sociedad manager David Moyes after his side were denied a penalty in the build up to Carrasc

Antoine Griezmann scored a stunning individual goal against former club Real Sociedad to help Atletico Madrid to a 2-0 win at Anoeta and pile more pressure on David Moyes.

The Frenchman began his run from the halfway line and raced past four Sociedad defenders before stylishly chipping the ball over goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli to give Atletico the lead in the eighth minute.

Then substitute Yannick Ferreira Carrasco sealed the points by netting in injury time, moments after Diego Reyes had been sent off for the hosts, and then striker Jonathas de Jesus was also dismissed after Atletico's second.

The win takes Atletico above Villarreal and up to fourth in the Primera Division table, while Sociedad languish in 16th place on six points after eight games, and level with the relegation zone.

Moyes has endured a torrid start to his second season with La Real and on Sunday morning was linked with a possible return to the Premier League if the Aston Villa job becomes vacant.

His side made a slow start against Atletico and were rocked by Griezmann's breathtaking run and finish, although the former Sociedad player opted for a muted celebration despite netting one of the best goals of his career.

Diego Simeone's side controlled the first half but were made to suffer in the second. David Zurutuza could have headed in an equaliser with 10 minutes remaining but his effort was booted clear by Tiago Mendes.

The Portuguese midfielder skied an opportunity to settle the game a few minutes later but then his team-mate Ferreira Carrasco did it for him.

Jose Maria Gimenez dived towards Jonathas in the area and the Brazilian tripped over the Uruguayan's head.

The referee waved play on and visitors surged forward, Fernando Torres slipping the ball into the path of the Belgian, who calmly rounded Rulli to score his first goal for Atleti.

Chaos broke out after the goal, and Jonathas was given two straight yellow cards for venting his anger at the referee to add more misery to Moyes, who had seen Reyes sent off for dissent just moments earlier.
