Angelo Ogbonna scored a last-minute extra-time winner for West Ham as they beat Liverpool 2-1 to make it through to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

The defender headed home Dimitri Payet's free-kick in the 121st minute of the fourth-round replay at Upton Park on Tuesday night.

Michail Antonio had given West Ham the lead on the stroke of half-time before Philippe Coutinho's free-kick levelled it up just after the break.

But with penalties looming, West Ham had the final say and will now travel to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers a week on Sunday.

Jurgen Klopp made 10 changes from the side that threw away a two-goal lead to draw with Sunderland on Saturday - only goalkeeper Simon Mignolet kept his place - with five members of their starting line-up having never previously started a Premier League game.

Despite their comparative inexperience, Liverpool started stronger and should have taken the lead after 15 minutes when Christian Benteke met Coutinho's corner unmarked at the far post, but could do no more than hit it straight at West Ham goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

The chance seemed to shock the Hammers out of their early slumber, and within a minute they had their own opportunity to take the lead as right-back Joey O'Brien, making his first start since July 2015, slammed a shot against the base of the post from the edge of the area.

Liverpool's youngsters continued to impress, but it was the more experienced pairing of Benteke and Coutinho that combined to make two great chances in quick succession.

First, Coutinho rattled the upright after he'd been found in the area by Benteke, before the big Belgian again forced Randolph into action from a corner delivered to the far post.

The woodwork was rattled for a third time in the half as Mignolet touched Payet's glorious free-kick onto the post, before the goalkeeper recovered superbly to keep out Antonio's follow-up header.

Antonio would not be denied again in the 45th minute, however, as he side-footed home on the volley after Enner Valencia broke into the area and crossed for his team-mate.

Falling behind would have been a hammer blow to Liverpool after such a positive opening half, but they recovered quickly after the break and equalised within three minutes - thanks to the quick thinking of Coutinho.

Liverpool won a free-kick on the edge of the area, and the little Brazilian simply waited for the West Ham wall to jump before slipping it underneath their feet and into Randolph's gaping net.

Jurgen Klopp was disappointed with Liverpool's cup exit

Klopp wasted little time in turning to Daniel Sturridge for his first appearance since December, but it was West Ham who were on top and they should have had a penalty after 67 minutes when Valencia was tugged down by Tiago Ilori as he tried to get onto the end of Antonio's cross.

Benteke looked short of confidence throughout and, after forcing a fine save from Randolph with a free-kick as the 90th minute approached, he spurned three more golden opportunities to put Liverpool ahead in the first half of extra-time.

First he volleyed wide, then he was denied by Randolph when clean through before finally heading over from 10 yards.

And it would come back to haunt the Liverpool striker as Ogbonna rose to head home his first goal for West Ham at the death.
