Another dismal evening on home turf for Liverpool as they suffer a 1-0 defeat to Fulham with a much-changed line-up doing nothing to press their claims for an FA Cup final place.
The first kick is headed behind by Hangeland, with the second reaching Enrique, whose low shot is gathered by Schwarzer.
Couple of half-hearted Wembley songs from the Kop. It is unlikely too many of the players on duty tonight will be involved against Chelsea on Saturday in the FA Cup final.
Skrtel nearly gifts Fulham a second, as Dempsey eaks in after his weak header, but Doni is able to block.
Coates' attempted ball to Carroll is calmly headed back to Schwarzer by Kelly. Dembele is down, feeling the effects of an earlier challenge.
Riise has another attempt from distance after Dembele earns a free-kick, but his radar appears to be off tonight.
Downing may be happy to be flagged offside as he makes a complete hash of attempting to connect with Carroll's flick at the far post.
Shelvey attempts to cross with his right, but an inadvertant touch with his left knocks the ball out for a goalkick.
GREAT SAVE FROM DONI!!! The Liverpool goalkeeper rescues his side as he denies Clint Dempsey with the Fulham forward clean through on goal after Frei's pass.
Raheem Sterling comes on to replace Kuyt, with his introduction bringing the most noise out of the Anfield faithful all night.
The hard-working Kuyt slips at the crucial moment as he looks to cross in the area, with Riise bringing the ball away.
Murphy wastes the opportunity as his attempted pass to Dempsey is cut out, before Carroll is pulled up for handball no the halfway line, much to the striker's frustration.
Riise tries his luck from distance, but his low strike ends up closer to the corner flag than the goal.
Carroll cuts inside on the edge of the area but is challenged by Hughes just as he shapes to shoot. Murphy then has to be alert to head away from under his own bar.
That could be the last outing for Aurelio of his Liverpool career, with his contract due to expire in the summer.
Good work from Carroll as he keeps the ball in play on the stretch, before heading off target from Aurelio's cross.
Another Fulham attack sees Riise bursting into the box on the left but Doni stands tall to deny the former Reds favourite.
OFF THE POST!!! Substitute Frei is inches away from making an immediate impact as he is found by Dempsey, with a little jink inside giving him some space before he drills a low shot against the base of Doni's post.
Superb challenge from Hangeland as he makes up a huge amount of ground to slide in and deny Maxi after the midfielder had burst into the Fulham area. Great stuff from the Cottagers defender.
Great chest control from Carroll in the box before his attempted overhead kick is way off target. The good and the bad in the space of two seconds.
Doni has to be alert to race from his line and claim ahead of Pogreyak after a great ball into the area from Dempsey.
Duff swings over a great corner which Dempsey gets to ahead of Skrtel, but directs his header narrowly wide.
Good spell from Fulham with Dembele and Dempsey finding Duff. He is forced out of the area, but Dembele picks the ball up again and the Cottagers have a corner.
Kuyt looks to get in behind Fulham's defence with an arcing run, but is flagged offside. Close call.
Dempsey gives the ball away in midfield, with Spearing seizing possession and bursting towards the box with his low shot well held by the post by Schwarzer.
Good hold-up play from Carroll before Aurelio crosses. Hangeland heads away with Shelvey firing an ambitious volley into the Kop.
Knut Olav Halseth from Norway writes: 'I could see when the teams marched out on the field that John Arne Riise and Brede Hangeland wore black armbands in memory of Norwegian World Champion swimmer Alexander Dale Oen who tragically died of a cardiac arrest in the US yesterday while preparing for the London Olympics. The whole nation are in shock and it was good to see Riise and Hangeland honouring him.'
It was a nightmare start for Liverpool, with Skrtel diverting Riise's driven cross beyond Doni after a slight touch from Kacaniklic. The Reds were on top before the break, but could not find an equaliser. Kenny Dalglish will not have been impressed by some poor passing, with Spearing particularly at fault.
The half-time whistle goes, and Fulham go in one goal to the good thanks to the early own goal from Martin Skrtel.
Another chance for Liverpool! Spearing feeds Aurelio, whose good cross is headed goalwards by Carroll, but fortunately for Fulham it goes straight at Schwarzer, who gathers at the second attempt.
Dempsey and Pogreyak attempt to combine on the edge of the area, but Liverpool smuggle the ball away. Carroll then immediately feeds Shelvey, whose driven shot is beaten away by Schwarzer.
Another chance for Liverpool and again they are off target. Shelvey's superb raking cross-field pass is played back into the area by Kuyt, which Carroll nods back into the path of Maxi, who can only fire high and wide.
Pogreyak looks OK and he feeds Kacaniklic as Fulham attempt to break, with Coates sliding in to halt the attack.
Carroll is very lucky to avoid any punishment after catching Aaron Hughes late on the ankle as the defender clears.
Shelvey's deep, deep corner is headed back into the danger zone well by Carroll, with Maxi rising to head over the bar.
Maxi finds Kelly out wide on the right with an intelligent pass, but the full-back's attempted cross is low and badly hit, with Fulham able to clear their lines.
Schwarzer is called into action again as Carroll wins the ball in the air on the edge of the box, with Kuyt's daisy-cutter straight at the goalkeeper.
The big defender is back on his feet and looks OK to continue. No malice in the challenge, just an unfortunate clash.
Skrtel is down after being caught in the head by Dempsey's elbow as they went for a ball in the air.
LIVERPOOL SO CLOSE AGAIN!!! Carroll goes up for a cross with Schwarzer and gets the better of the keeper, the ball heads goalwards but it is scrambled away by Kelly. Maxi then finds Shelvey whose shot squirms away from Schwarzer and towards goal, only for Hangeland to be well placed on the line to clear.
Liverpool are gifted possession and have the chance to break, but Shelvey's attempted pass to Kuyt is cut out by the back-tracking Riise. Awful.
Spearing gives the ball away yet again, with Kacaniklic bursting forward until he is stopped unfairly by Coates.
CLOSE FOR LIVERPOOL!!! Henderson feeds Carroll on the edge of the area and when the big striker's shot is blocked, Kuyt hits the ball first time with the outside of his boot and is unfortunate to see it curl just wide of Schwarzer's goal.
Shelvey attempts to cross from near the corner flag on the left, but his ball into the box does not beat the first man and is driven away.
Dempsey attempts to work an opening on the right of the Liverpool area, but he is well marshalled by Skrtel and the ball goes out for a goal-kick.
Kuyt is busy outside the box and he finds Maxi, who cuts in from the left but fires his shot well off target from range.
Solid challenge from Riise on Spearing on the edge of the box stops the Liverpool midfielder in his tracks.
More slack play from Liverpool gives Fulham the ball. Dempsey and Riise combine to try and find Kacaniklic, but Coates is across to deny the Fulham man.
Good play from the Cottagers back-line as they step up in unison to leave Andy Carroll standing offside on the edge of the box as the cross is delivered to him.
Fulham force another corner, but Liverpool's defence deals with it well. The Cottagers need to start making more of their dead-ball situations.
GREAT CHANCE FOR FULHAM!!! Spearing gifts the ball to Kacaniklic, who bursts away from the Reds man and finds Dempsey. He then clips the ball into the box in an attempt to find the young Swede, but Pogreyak gets to it first and forces Doni into a decent save.
Kuyt and Henderson feed Aurelio out on left flank, but his immediate cross into the area is way off target, with only Carroll advanced.
Fulham look to cut through Liverpool again, but Skrtel is quickly across to slide in and stop Dempsey in his tracks.
Danny Murphy trots over to take a corner and is given a warm reception from the Kop. His kick goes short to Dembele but he is crowded out by three defenders.
First-team coach Billy McKinlay is barking orders from the Fulham technical area in the absence of Jol. It's so quiet in Anfield you can hear most of what he is saying...
Jordan Henderson lets fly from distance but his shot is always rising and curling well off target of Mark Schwarzer's goal.
Liverpool go close to getting back on terms as Aurelio's curling free-kick from outside the box is headed narrowly over the bar by Skrtel.
The already quiet Kop is silenced as Riise's low drilled cross is deflected home by Martin Skrtel past the unfortunate Doni.
Shelvey chases down a long ball but Schwarzer is off his line quickly and gets to it first to boom his clearance down field.
Some neat passing in midfield from the Reds, but Kuyt's attempted through-ball to Carroll is over-hit.
It's a swift return to Merseyside for Fulham, who were hammered 4-0 by Everton at Goodison at the weekend.
Liverpool steal the ball and are knocking it around, attempting to give every player an early touch.
If you fancy a flutter, Sky Bet have a host of markets available, with the headlines that Liverpool are 8/11 favourites, Fulham are a healthy 4/1 shot and the draw is on offer at 5/2. If I had to make a prediction, I'd go for a shock away win.
The two teams are in the tunnel and about to make their way out onto the Anfield surface. Former Reds midfielder Danny Murphy is Fulham's skipper.
Victory for Fulham tonight would take them level on points with Liverpool, but the Reds have their sights set on Mersey rivals Everton, who are in action at Stoke tonight and two points above them in seventh.
Opta stat No.2: Fulham have failed to score in their last five Premier League games at Anfield. The last player to score for them there was Collins John in March 2006.
Opta stat No.1: Liverpool have won only two of their last five Premier League encounters with Fulham, but the Reds have never lost a Premier League game to the Cottagers at Anfield (W6 D4).
Elijah Handley reckons: 'As an LFC fan I am slightly concerned with the weakened lineup, was expecting a weakened one but this is a little more than expected. However, I'm glad Coates, Kelly & Shelvey are getting starts and to see Aurelio back on the field is great as well - all I wonder is why Spearing is playing instead of Sterling. I'll not be over-optimistic and I'll say a 2-2 draw, with Demps getting all of Fulham's goals, and goals for Kuyt & Carroll for the reds. COYR!! And best of luck to Martin Jol!'
Scott Brown says: 'It will be interesting to see some of the young lads and out of favour players tonight. If nothing else it will be good blooding for the young ones. Would have liked to see Sterling start or but possibly he will come in as a sub. Glad to see that Skrtel is in to give Dempsey a run for his money. Here's hoping for a win and the chance for the young fellas to shine! Come on The Reds! YNWA.'
@tomo_hyde writes: 'A final this weekend I like the way Dalglish has considered it, however the team looks rather defensive. Come on Sterling!'
@adamhampton87 reckons: 'Good to see Spearing getting a run-out tonight. Needs to show us a little of what he's capable of. He may need be talismanic.'
@harryfrost789 says: 'C'mon you Reds - hoping we won't regret no Suarez and Stevie G - so happy for Aurelio, Maxi, Kuyt and Sterling - LFC 2-FUL 0.'
Fulham have just confirmed that manager Martin Jol is not attending tonight's game as he continues to recover from a chest infection.
Amrit from Mauritius writes: 'I agree with Daglish over this change in squad for today's fixture, with an eye for the FA Cup Final. Hope that Caroll will be able to lead the attack today following his recent improvement and also that we will get to see the young exciting Sterling today who will definitely make an impact if put on. I go for a 2-1 win for Liverpool. Come on LFC!!!'
First in touch is Dan, who says: 'Kenny's team selection is understandable at this stage in the season, we have nothing to play for in the league, may as well focus on the cup and give Maxi and Kuyt a game, would love to see Sterling play! 2-1 Liverpool - Kuyt and Sterling.'

Liverpool have, unsurprisingly, named a much-changed side for this encounter with Saturday's FA Cup final against Chelsea looming on the horizon.
