Bordeaux capped a potentially season-defining week with a thumping 4-0 win at mid-table Lorient. Francis Gillot's team ended a six-game winless run with a late win over high-flying Toulouse last weekend before strengthening their Europa League tilt in midweek with a 1-0 success over Maritimo. Sunday night's victory came far more emphatically as first-half strikes from Jussie and Ludovic Obraniak set them on their way before Henri Saivet and Yoan Gouffran added the gloss after the break. It meant Bordeaux, for all their problems at the start of the season, leapt up to sixth in the Ligue 1 table to move within sight of the leaders. They were ahead after 18 minutes at the Stade du Moustoir after some sloppy defending allowed Obraniak's corner to creep through the area and Jussie swooped to slot home. The visitors pushed on for more and Saivet headed just over from Benoit Tremoulinas' cross from the left before the influential Obraniak made it 2-0 following a counter-attack on the half hour. Marc Planus freed Jussie down the right flank and his delivery picked out Obraniak at the far post to volley in. Bordeaux were all over Lorient and were only prevented from going into the break 3-0 up when Lamine Kone cleared Gouffran's shot off the line. It did not take Bordeaux long after the break, however, to surge out of sight. Again Obraniak was involved in their third goal as he fizzed in a corner and Saivet rose above Pedrinho to power in his header on 52 minutes. Five minutes later it was 4-0. Jussie cleverly flicked on Saivet's long ball forward for Gouffran to ruin onto and smash a low drive past a beleaguered Fabien Audard. Lorient almost grabbed a consolation when Kevin Monnet-Paquet unleashed a stunning volley but Cedric Carrasso was up to the task of palming it away.
