It is all or nothing for Manchester City on Matchday Six, with victory over Bayern Munich a must if they are to keep their UEFA Champions League dream alive. Even three points on Wednesday may not be enough for Roberto Mancini's side to book their place in the last 16, with favours required from afar. City must emerge victorious at the Etihad Stadium and hope that Villarreal can take points off Napoli in the night's other Group A fixture. The Premier League leaders were always aware that their first foray into the Champions League was not going to be easy, having been handed a tough draw, but few expected them to fall at the first hurdle. The Blues know there can be no more slip-ups if they are to avoid such a fate and they will be looking to make the most of home advantage in midweek. Bayern will arrive in Manchester already assured of their place in the knockout stage and top spot in the group. They may opt to name a weakened side, allowing them to rest key men, and that could play into City's hands. Mancini will also be aware that Bayern have not fared all that well on English soil in the recent past, winning just two of their last 16 European matches in England - and losing their last three in a row. The Bundesliga giants have, however, lost only one of their last seven away games in the Champions League and saw off City 2-0 in the reverse fixture back in September - on a night that sparked the Carlos Tevez controversy. Mario Gomez netted twice at the Allianz Arena and the Germany international is the joint-top scorer in this season's competition, with six goals plundered in five outings.

    Richards doubt

In-form City right-back Micah Richards is doubtful for the crucial continental clash. Richards has a slight calf problem and will be assessed, but Pablo Zabaleta could take his place after recovering from a knock sustained in last week's Carling Cup win at Arsenal. Gael Clichy is likely to continue at left-back with Aleksandar Kolarov out for around three weeks with a groin problem.
    Bayern illness
Bayern are expected to shuffle their pack, especially as illness has ravaged their squad. Arjen Robben and Toni Kroos are suffering with flu and will play no part against City. Thomas Muller and the in-form Gomez are also struggling, but they could come into contention. Bastian Schweinsteiger (collarbone) will definitely be missing for Bayern, but Breno has shaken off a knee problem and is back in training.
