That's it. Been a really interesting game - refreshing to see a team visit Old Trafford and not 'park the bus' - and Wolfsburg have emerged with great credit. That said, it's six points from six for United and they're on course for the next round.
Misimovic gets a yard of space to get the cross in and it's headed for Dzeko at the back post when Evra pops up to turn it behind. The corner breaks to the edge of the box and Giggs clears with the last touch of the game.
Schafer gets another cross in but it's cleared again by Vidic. United under pressure in the closing stages.
Rooney attempts an audacious chip from the edge of the box but Benaglio manages to backpedal and save comfortably.
Martins tries to somehow pick his way through but it's no-nonsense stuff from Vidic as he smacks it downfield.
Rooney whips the ball in from the right but Berbatov is just caught on his heels and it sails past him, allowing Madlung to clear. Vidic is back on.
Vidic needs treatment for what must be a blood injury as he's had to go off straight away. United down to 10 while they defend the free-kick...but Wolfsburg overplay it. Wasteful.
Free-kick centrally for Wolfsburg around 25-30 yards out. Silly challenge from Vidic on Dzeko there. Could easily have been a second yellow for the big Serb. Real chance this.
Martins stopped by an excellent tackle from Carrick. United spring forward and Giggs lays it out to Fletcher on the right but the Scotsman has just strayed offside despite the look of bemusement he shoots at the assistant referee.
Lovely stuff from Berbatov as he dinks the ball in for Anderson but his first touch is a heavy one and Benaglio is out quickly to gather. Credit to Ziani for getting back to track the run too.
Josue up from defensive midfield as Wolfsburg seek an equaliser, but his effort from around 19 yards out is always curling wide. Looked to have Kuszczak worried, though.
Ziani whips a ball in from the right and Schafer, who has worked his way clear of Fletcher, volleys...way off target.
Fletcher looks like he's been briefed to keep an eye on Schafer, who has been a real threat down the left for Wolfsburg.
Wolfsburg bring Obafemi Martins on for Grafite. This is a man who has scored at Old Trafford in a score draw before. An omen?
Grafite goes down after a challenge with Ferdinand just outside the United box on the left. He reckons it's a foul by Ferdinand, but the referee awards the free-kick the other way.
Good punch from Kuszczak to clear a cross in from Schafer on the left. Credit to Wolfsburg, they've played really well tonight and have refused to abandon their attacking principles at any point.
GOAL - CARRICK. Evra, Rooney, Berbatov and Giggs all involved in the set-up from the throw, with Carrick curling one home confidently with his right foot from arond 16 yards to give United the lead.
Good ball in from Giggs on the left which Rooney looks to latch onto but Madlung slides in well to clear for a United throw.
Ziani in hard on Evra from behind. Free-kick to United deep in their own half. Pretty robust challenge that one.
United survive a shaky moment as the back as Ferdinand does a complete 360 degree turn before clearing from the edge of the box. Giggs then beaten by the bounce of the ball again as Berbatov tries to angle a ball out to him on the left.
Lovely backheel from Grafite which Schafer just manages to keep in play, with Ferdinand turning his cross behind for a corner. Kuszczak gathers the set-piece well, though.
Wolfsburg bring Karim Ziani on for Hasebe. Hardly a defensive substitution this one - Ziani's a real livewire in midfield.
Another decent cross into the Wolfsburg box from Valencia but it's headed clear. Carrick has really stepped up his game of late - he's spraying some lovely quick balls around the field.
Giggs drifts a cross in after decent work from Carrick and Berbatov but it's a poor one and Benaglio gathers unchallenged inside his six-yard box.
Giggs has the ball in the Wolfsburg net again...but the offside flag is up. Giggs is claiming the ball deflected to him off a Wolfsburg leg, which it did, but he was probably just beyond the last man when Carrick first tried to find him.
Great spin from Rooney on the edge of the Wolfsburg means he can get a left-footed shot away but this time the deflection favours the Germans and Benaglio gathers.
Clever play from Valencia to spin Schafer and draw a free-kick for United. Between 25 and 30 yards out.
Good header from Riether clears a Valencia cross away from danger with Rooney poised to volley it goalwards.
Lovely ball in from Carrick towards Giggs but Josue tracks the run and heads it back to Benaglio. Good defending.
Corner whipped in to Dzeko but this time is header sails over the crossbar. Maybe should have done better there.
Really open game now. Dzeko gets the cross in from the right towards Grafite and Carrick has to slide in to turn it behind.
Giggs cuts the corner back for Rooney who shoots with his second touch. Lovely curling, dipping effort but lands on the roof of the net. Close but no cigar.
Giggs' free-kick causes momentary panic in the Wolfsburg box but Gentner is the coolest head in there and clears. United have got a real head of steam up here and Vidic has a decent chances to get a shot in but pulls it wide. Giggs forces a corner.
Rooney caught by Costa as he spins away and it's another free-kick. Costa booked for the foul as well. He can have no complaints.
GOAL - GIGGS. Not taken long to level matters - plenty of fortune about it though. Giggs curls the free-kick in and it takes a massive deflection off the wall and ends up in the corner.
Free-kick United in a really dangerous position with Josue going in rashly on Anderson. About 20 yards out just to the right of centre as United attack the Stretford End. Rooney or Giggs?
Gentner this time with the ball in from the left but Vidic manages to get his head to this one and United carry it clear.
United straight on the attack from the restart and Giggs whips a cross in but it's well cleared by Josue.
GOAL - DZEKO. Almost out of nothing but Wolfsburg lead. Great clipped ball over from Misimovic finds Dzeko on Evra at the back post. No contest and it's a great header to give Wolfsburg the lead.
Berbatov has the ball on a piece of string at the end of his boot tonight - his touches have been awesome. This time he helps set up a chance for Anderson, who draws an excellent save from Benaglio. Clearly a top-drawer shot-stopper but his decision-making definitely questionable.
Anderson curls in a shot from distance but it's always fading wide. Rooney again annoyed with the Brazilian as he felt he had a much better shooting opportunity.
Gentner gets a shot away from the edge of the United box which seems to rear up and loop dangerously towards the net. Kuszczak backpedals to gather, though as it turns out it looked to be going wide in any case.
Great stuff from Evra as he weedles his way out of three tackles and sets United on the attack. Anderson initially has a breakdown in communication with Carrick then tries to find Rooney, who is offside, when Giggs was unmarked out on the left.
Patient enough from United as they go all the way back to Anderson in the centre circle. He tries to find Giggs with an ambitious ball over the top but it skips away from the Welshman.
Short corner worked back to Giggs but his cross is a poor one and Benaglio should gather comfortably but instead punches it unconvincingly and it's another corner.
Valencia cuts a ball back from out wide to Rooney on the edge of the box but just as he looks to get it down Costa slides in to clear at the expense of a corner.
Lovely corner which Costa comes charging onto near the penalty spot. His shot is high and wide. Maybe should have done better there, though Berbatov was snapping at his heels.
That didn't last long. Lovely ball over from Schafer on the left is headed behind by Evra for a Wolfsburg corner.
Wolfsburg get us back under way but Anderson snaps straight into the tackle which is a better start to the half for United!
News on Michael Owen is it's a groin strain. Sir Alex Ferguson says it's "unfortunate". More generally he's been pretty pleased with the end to the first half - particularly the play in the final third - but he says "we just need that goal".
Sky Bet still favouring United here - they go 4/9 the home win with the draw 23/10 and the Wolfsburg win 7/1.
Lee Emerson writes: "Very interesting first half...the Germans certainly turned up to play. United will still win I think. 2-1. Might need to bring on Scholes to provide the lacking killer pass."
That's the break. Wolfsburg had the better of the early stages but as much as United wouldn't have wanted to lose Owen to injury it's actually benefitted them as Berbatov has really shone since coming on and United have dominated approaching the break.
Substitute the name Carrick for Anderson in the previous sentence as another through ball drits too long.
Berbatov tries to thread the ball through the eye of a needle to Rooney but it's half-cleared. Valencia picks it up and digs a cross out which Carrick meets with a diving header. Tough to beat the keeper from 12 yards like that, though.
Lovely flowing move from United involving Valencia and Berbatov presents Rooney with a shooting chance from around 20 yards but there's plenty of defenders round him and his tame effort is easily gathered by the goalkeeper.
Rain hammering down now. Hasn't put Wolfsburg off one bit though - they're still knocking the ball around confidently.
Josue needing a bit of treatment in back play. Made a great tackle on Giggs a minute back and caught a stray boot. Nothing more than committed from Giggs. He's off but looks sure to continue.
Lovely turn from Grafite just inside the Wolfsburg half and he's hauled to the ground by Vidic after leaving him for dead. He can have no complaints as the yellow card is shown by our Hungarian referee. That's two for the tournament.
Grafite wins a flicked header after beating Vidic in the air but Ferdinand does really well to track Dzeko and head the ball back to a relieved Kuszczak. They're a dangerous front two for Wolfsburg that's for sure.
Lovely ball 'around the corner' for Anderson to Berbatov who has a yard of space. There's a reason why - the offside flag is up.
Giggs and Rooney play a lovely one-two and the former hoists a cross over towards the onrushing Berbatov. He meets the ball on the half-volley but can't keep a touch chance down and it sails into the crowd behind the goal.
Misimovic curls the free-kick into the United box but that man Berbatov is there to clear. United spring on the counter as Riether plays a dreadful ball but Berbatov slips at a crucial stage and it's cleared as Riether himself gets back.
Carrick penalised for a foul on Gentner. Good switch of feet from the Wolfsburg man there to draw the free-kick.
Gentner meets Misimovic's corner with a thumping header, but it's over the bar. Should have done better there.
Corner to Wolfsburg as Grafite's cross deflects behind off Vidic's toes. Good work from the Brazilian there - he was isolated out wide and the corner was the best he could hope for.
Berbatov has been quite brilliant since coming on - he's produced two audacious flicks and a couple of lovely passes. Tough on Owen, but United have been better since the Bulgarian entered the fray.
Anderson and Rooney finally click with a lovely ball from the Brazilian right to Rooney's feet. He lashes in a shot but it's deflected behind for a corner.
Misimovic skips over a challenge to get to the edge of the United box but O'Shea stops his progress.
Berbatov smacks in a shot which is blocked on the edge of the box. He then slides it through to Carrick who is through on the goalkeeper but Benaglio is out quickly and blocks the shot. Excellent goalkeeping. United just cranking it up now.
Anderson tries so slide a ball through to Rooney but again it's a breakdown in communication as the England man has peeled away down the inside left channel and the ball goes centrally.
What looks like a lovely ball in from Evra sails over those in the middle but it's picked up by Valencia. He works it back to Carrick who hoists a ball in towards Berbatov. Flag up, though, with O'Shea also moving towards the ball from an offside position. Whistle goes, Wolfsburg stop, Berbatov slides across to Rooney and he puts it in the net. Not that it matters...
Jason Wathey is back on. He writes: "I had a feeling Owen would struggle but I didn't think it would be due to injury. A big shame for Owen after getting a start in the team."
Lovely backheel flick from Berbatov through to Valencia, who is away from his marker. He goes through one on one with the goalkeeper at an angle but drags the shot wide. Pretty similar to his early miss against Stoke.
Much better from United these last few minutes. They're pressing Wolfsburg much higher up the field and giving them no space to play their football. Just seen a replay of the 'handball' and it certainly struck Schafer's raised arm, though he was pretty adjacent to Valencia.
Berbatov and Rooney link up promisingly but the England man is eventually crowded out. Ball breaks back to Giggs who whips a lovely ball in but it just rears up off the wet turf and Valencia can't get it back with an acrobatic effort.
Giggs clips this free-kick into the box rather than letting Rooney shoot but it's brilliantly - and vitally - cleared by Grafite. O'Shea waiting at the back post had a clear header on goal.
Valencia gets a cross in which rears up into the air. United fans appeal for a penalty claiming handball from Schafer but there's nothing doing. Ball eventually breaks to Evra, who is fouled by Josue.
And there goes Owen. Berbatov on to replace him. Owen heads for the bench rather than the dressing room which suggests it's not the most serious of injuries but a frustrating one nevertheless particularly with Capello in attendance.
Rooney curls one over the wall but gets a bit too much curve on the ball and it skips wide of the post. Benaglio looked a little panicked early on there but he had it covered in the end.
Misimovic slids in on Anderson around 30 yards out centrally. Free-kick United. Looked like he got a toe on the ball but the tackle was from behind and he didn't seem to dispute the decision. Chance for Rooney to shoot here?
Berbatov still warming up and he's starting to get stripped off. Terrible luck for Owen, though as plenty of people will no doubt point out his injury problems are something United knew all about when they signed him.
Anderson tries to clip a ball over the top of the Wolfsburg defence for Rooney but the England striker has come short for the ball to feet and it skips out for a goal-kick.
Giggs tries to find Evra with an angled ball down the left but the angle is just too tight and it skips out before Evra can get there. Promising from United though as Evra was in a good deal of space there on the overlapping run.
In a sign of his frustration, Rooney comes deep to pick the ball up but he catches the 'virus' affecting his team-mates by lashing an ambitious diagonal ball out of play with Valencia on his heels.
United's delivery up to the front two has been pretty dreadful so far. Rooney and Owen not getting much to work on.
Grafite skips away from Ferdinand all too easily down the Wolfsburg right and whips a cross in. Gentner meets it on the volley but his attempted shot falls closer to the corner flag than the goal.
Good tackle from O'Shea to halt the galloping Schafer down the Wolfsburg left. Owen apparently struggling with a groin problem early on here. Berbatov warming up.
Early stages but Wolfsburg have definitely settled the better here - they're knocking the ball around confidently and certainly aren't overawed by the experience.
Misplaced pass from Evra, who finds Dzeko. He cuts in from the right and fires in a shot but it's a dreadful effort, sailing well wide. Sloppy from the French defender though as there was no pressure on him whatsoever.
Good pace to this game already. Pitch is slick thanks to a drop or two of rain in Manchester and both sides look keen to attack.
Lovely curled ball in from Giggs on the left but Owen just can't get enough on it with his head. Well marshalled by Madlung.
Misimovic seeing plenty of the ball early on here. This time he slides in Schafer down the left but his lashed cross drifts right across the six-yard box and is cleared at the back post. Real danger here for United - Wolfsburg look lively on the attack.
Rooney tries to slide the ball through for Owen but Madlung clears. Misimovic picks up and finds Grafite but he goes down under pressure from Vidic and with the Serb having got a touch on the ball the referee rightly waves play on.
Another awkward moment early on from Vidic as he attempts a ridiculous header rather than pumping the ball downfield with his head. The ball is worked to Misimovic centrally but his shot is a poor one and Kuszczak gathers easily.
Grafite slips into a yard of space in the United box but O'Shea reacts quickly and closes him down, forcing the ball away. Good stuff from Wolfsburg this - they're not afraid to attack certainly.
Vidic makes a hash of a clearance but Grafite can't latch onto it quick enough and only manages to turn it out for a United throw. Not the best from the big Serb that. He knew it - offering a hand of apology to his team-mates.
First free-kick of the game to United in midfield as Hasebe is penalised for a clumsy foul on Anderson just inside the Wolfsburg half. Comes to nothing though.
Confident opening from United until Carrick and Rooney just have a little misunderstanding. Still a throw to the hosts though.
Just going through the pre-match pleasantries. Looks like United will be kicking away from the Stretford End in the first half.
Late goal for Besiktas in the other game in the group, but CSKA have won 2-1. That's them, United and Wolfsburg all on three points albeit with CSKA having played a game more.
Players in the tunnel now. Fabio Capello's here tonight - what a chance for Owen to do the business...
First tip for the draw means we've got all covered bases now. Joseph writes: "I think United's defence is looking far from invincible this season and Wolfsburg's strikers were phenomenal last season with over 20 goals each. They clearly don't pass up chances when they get them and United play an open game so I'm sure Wolfsburg will get opportunities to score. Grafite will be at a big club sooner or later. I'd predict 1-1."
Bit of 'local' insight. Karl writes: "I'm going for a United win, easy. Been living in Germany the past 12 years and as far as footie goes we are light years ahead."
John Stiff reckons: "I think Lee is spot on. Berbatov has been given his chance and just like Tevez he does not find the back of the net often enough to lead the United front line! We need another 25-goal-a-season striker to take some of the pressure off of Rooney, now that Ronaldo has sadly gone to Madrid. 2-0 United for me."
Ollie Perkins from Blackpool writes: "I think it'll be 3-0 to Man Utd, with Rooney scoring the first 2 and Nani scoring the 3rd."
Wondered if we'd have anyone backing Wolfsburg...and Abhinav from India does just that, writing: "Am going with Wolfsburg. I think their strikers have the quality to get past Man Utd's defence more than once."
Jason Wathey isn't as confident about Owen - he's looking to his strike partner for goals. He writes: "I think it will be 2-0 to Manchester United with Rooney netting both. I've got a feeling Owen may struggle tonight but i hope not."
Lee from NY concurs with Tim's Owen verdict. He writes:" Nice to see Owen get a start. Berbatov has been given enough time. Think it will be closer than the bookies make it...you don't win German league if you're a bad team. United to win 3-1. Owen 2."
United fan Tim Tofte is first on the email. He writes: "I'm well happy SAF has given Owen his 3rd start - hope he plays well tonight to show Fab what England will be missing. I'm going for 3-0 united. Owen to get two and Rooney the other."
So how do you see this one panning out then? I'm hard pushed to see past United but it won't be an easy ride - 2-1 maybe with Owen among the scorers? Get your emails in to me on email@example.com and when time allows I'll publish the best.
Our friends at Sky Bet have United as the favourites for tonight - they're 1/3 with the draw 4/1 and Wolfsburg 8/1. In the goalscorer markets Wayne Rooney is 5/6 to score anytime and 3/1 first/last with Michael Owen 11/10 and 9/2 respectively in those two markets. Wolfsburg frontmen Grafite and Dzeko are 3/1 and 7/2 in the anytime markets.
Several changes to the United line-up from the weekend then, most notably Kuszczak in for Foster and Owen for Berbatov. The now traditional midfield alterations as well, with Valencia, Carrick, Anderson and Giggs the chosen four this evening. Heard plenty of good things about the Wolfsburg strikeforce of Dzeko and Grafite so looking forward to seeing them. Former Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins is on the bench.
Wolfsburg: Benaglio, Riether, Madlung, Ricardo Costa, Schafer, Josue, Hasebe, Misimovic, Gentner, Dzeko, Grafite. Subs: Lenz, Martins, Santana, Ziani, Pekarik, Dejagah, Barzagli.
Here's the teams. Man Utd: Kuszczak, O'Shea, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Valencia, Carrick, Anderson, Giggs, Owen, Rooney. Subs: Foster, Brown, Berbatov, Nani, Scholes, Fabio Da Silva, Fletcher.
