Mansfield held by Oldham in goalless draw

Adam Murray was delighted with Mansfield Town's performance even though they were held to a goalless draw by League One strugglers Oldham.

The League Two side now face an Emirates FA Cup first round replay at Boundary Park, but they could have nicked it as Reggie Lambe missed the chance of the game for the Stags while Oldham's Cameron Dummigan made two goal line clearances.

"I thought we were excellent today and we dominated the game," the Mansfield boss said.

"Some of our play at times was top drawer and we did everything but score. If we play like that week-in week-out we will win a lot more than we lose."

On Lambe's chance, he added: "It should have been in. Reggie should have scored and nine times out of 10 he does. We just need that cutting edge and that rub of the green.

"Oldham are a good team. As I said before the game their league position lies. They play some great stuff and are not having the rub of the green. So to dominate them for large periods was pleasing.

"I didn't ever think we were going to lose the game, it was more about how we were going to win it.

"It's rubbish to say they are only 11 places higher than us as the difference between League One and League Two is huge. It's a massive gulf."

Mansfield had the first-half edge, though full Oldham debutant Ricardo Fuller fired a good chance wide on 29 minutes from Mark Yeates' cutting pass.

However on half-time Craig Westcarr crossed from the left and Lambe somehow volleyed over from five yards out in the centre of goal.

Mansfield remained in the ascendancy after the break and Joel Coleman did well to get hand to a Matt Green finish and then saw Dummigan block the follow-up on the line.

Brian Jensen did have to palm away a shot from Lee Croft but 10 minutes from the end Dummigan was there again to deny Nathan Thomas and ensure the sides replayed for the second time in three seasons.

Oldham manager David Dunn said: "We weren't good enough with the ball.

We have to be better when we are in possession.

"But we are in the hat for the next round, so that is not too bad. The lad's worked really hard and kept going until the end.

"With the injuries and suspensions we have picked up recently we had to shuffle the pack, which wasn't ideal coming to a team that is flying in their league.

"Without making excuses we are probably short of four, five or six players who would be starting.

"We worked hard in difficult conditions in a strong wind, but it wasn't the most entertaining game.

"Ricardo Fuller is disappointed he didn't hit the target, but we will go again, back in the league. Three home games in 10 days will give us a chance to improve our home form."
