Yossi Benayoun
Midfielder

The Israeli was at his tricky best in a midfield without Steven Gerrard. Benayoun demonstrated quick feet and an eye for a pass throughout the game before he was replaced late on. He was the architect of Liverpool's opener as he slotted in a brilliant ball behind the United defence for Fernando Torres.
Jamie Carragher
Defender

Arguably could have been sent off late on in the game after he hauled down Owen, but that incident aside he was excellent. Centre-back Carragher made two outstanding blocks to help shield Reina and earn his side a clean sheet.
Fernando Torres
Striker

A constant menace. United's backline were clearly very aware of the striker's blistering pace and therefore played deeper. Torres had one major chance, and took it. The goal demonstrated world class ability as he shrugged off Ferdinand and then thumped home at the near post.
Edwin van der Sar
Goalkeeper

Made a brilliant double save in the first half to ensure the sides went in level at the break. But the Dutchman could not do anything about Torres' emphatic finish or Ngog when the Frenchman was clean through.
Michael Owen
Forward

Almost came back to haunt his former club. First, he laid off for Valencia, whose strike flashed off the crossbar. Then he got round Carragher and was hauled down. His manager felt Carragher should have seen red.
