Big loss: City ultimately failed to cope with the loss of Richard Dunne to a gashed shin in the first half but there simply wasn't enough passion or urgency going forward for the Blues, whose European hopes are fading fast after a third straight game without scoring. Reading wanted it more today and they got it!
Full-time: Reading climb out of the bottom three after claiming a second straight win. It was thoroughly deserved too and came courtesy of two well-taken second-half goals from Shane Long and Dave Kitson.
92 mins - Blocked: Ingimarsson blocks Caicedo's shot to give City a corner but yet again there's no urgency from the visitors as they fail to even claim a consolation.
89 mins - Almost three for Reading as Doyle fires wide from the right side of the box. City a shambles now as they look destined to go a third straight game without scoring.
87 mins - GOAL!!! Dave Kitson seals it for Reading with a superbly-taken goal within five minutes of coming on. The Royals find Kitson in space on the right and the gangly striker makes it look a stroll in the park as he cuts inside Ball and tucks it inside Hart's near post fropm eight yards. That's Kitson's first of the year but his ninth of the season.
86 mins - Desperate: Corluka pumps it into the City box and Caicedo fails to head the ball goalwards.
83 mins - Offside against Benjani and he should be relieved as that was a woeful header straight at Hahnemann when unmarked just eight yards out.
82 mins - Fresh legs: Reading make another change with Shane Long making way for Dave Kitson.
80 mins - Busy: Elano is trying to get City going but two long-range efforts which both fail to test Hahnemann are the best he can muster.
79 mins - First substitution for Reading as Kalifa Cisse comes on for Matejovsky.
77 mins - Little threat from City so far despite facing a huge blow in the hunt for Europe.
74 mins - Propel: If Reading can hang on for the three points they will climb out of the relegation zone and to as high as 12th. Tipped as firm relegation candidates over recent weeks, they could climb above Newcastle!
72 mins - Easy for Reading as City again fail to capitalise on an Elano corner after Caicedo's cross was blocked by Liam Rosenior.
71 mins - Shaky: After looking strong at the start of the second half, City's defence has fallen to pieces to put Reading on the verge of a second straight win.
69 mins - Let-off for City after the ball broke for Hunt at the far post. Although there are plenty of bodies in the box, the Irish winger has a clear shooting opportunity from the just inside the box and Hart does well to block Hunt's side-footed effort.
66 mins - Attacking change by City as Sven-Goran Eriksson throws on Mexican forward Nery Castillo for midfielder Hamann.
63 mins - Combo: The same combination almost doubles the lead immediately with Long failing to get enough on Doyle's right-wing cross. City clearly didn't learn from the first goal as Long stole into another gap in the City box to head wide from 12 yards.
62 mins - GOAL!!! City are caught napping as Kevin Doyle latches onto a long ball down the left and gets in behind Ball before pulling back for Shane Long. The Irish striker is wide open despite being the only Reading player in the box and side-foots past Hart from eight yards to give the Royals a deserved lead.
61 mins - Reply: City reply with Benjani firing wide from 25 yards.
60 mins - Woodwork: Reading find Doyle in a good position on the right side of the box and his shot is deflected into the side-netting, and defender Andre Bikey then holds off Benjani to fire against the crossbar from a tight angle after City fail to deal with the corner.
59 mins - First substitution sees Felipe Caicedo replace Vassell, who put in a good shift out on the left despite clearly not enjoying it out there.
58 mins - Deflected cross from Oster which Long just fails to turn goalwards.
57 mins - Organised: City's defence appears to have regrouped now. Regular full-backs Corluka and Ball are in the middle, with Sun on the right and Garrido on the left.
56 mins - Close: City sweep the ball wide for Elano on the left and he fires a couple of yards wide from 25 yards.
54 mins - On top: City keep the pressure on and Gelson's 20-yard volley is saved by Hahnemann.
52 mins - Corner for City after Vassell's cross blocked and although this time the Blues charge towards Elano's delivery, no-one manages to direct the ball goalwards.
49 mins - Corner cleared by City and Matejovsky fires well wide from 20 yards.
47 mins - Neat lay-off from Benjani for Elano on the right but despite having bags of time the Brazilian playmaker hits the cross over Vassell at the back post.
Restart: City kick-off the second half - but only after the pedantic Rennie pulls up Johnson for not doing it properly on his first attempt.
Makeshift: City have shown glimpses of class going forward, although Corluka's four-yard miss wasn't one of them! They're more than capable of getting themselves in front in the second half but it's a makeshift back four now for the Blues so will they manage to hold out?
Cuppa: Think I'll have one myself while I ponder just what was going on in the City defence after the loss of Dunne.
Half-time: There's two minutes of stoppage time following the injury to Richard Dunne but no further action to report with the two sides happy to go in for their half-time brew all square.
45 mins - Controversial shout from Rennie as although Johnson made a meal of it, there was contact. Had Johnson not gone down theatrically a couple of minutes earlier after a fair challenge by Harper then he might have got it!
44 mins - Penalty shout: City think they're awarded a penalty after Johnson goes down following a lunge by Ingimarsson. Instead Rennie whips out his yellow card and books the young City midfielder for diving.
41 mins - Opening for Kevin Doyle just outside the City box but Corluka manages to block his shot.
39 mins - Pressure: Reading keep the pressure on with a well-worked short corner cleared as far as Matejovsky. The Czech's 25-yard effort bounces viciously towards goal and Hart does superbly to palm it clear since Hunt almost re-directed it from eight yards out.
37 mins - Best chance yet for Reading from Oster's inswinging free-kick on the left. Sun is booked after clattering into Shane Long, who then sent a glancing header inches past the far post from the free-kick.
35 mins - Corner for Reading now on the right but Hunt's cross drifts over the danger zone.
33 mins - Good news for City fans as reports are that the 'Dunney Monster' has suffered a gashed shin. Not pleasant but a damn sight better than a broken ankle, which was first feared.
32 mins - Another corner won by Vassell on the left. City play if short but again there's nobody pushing to get Elano's cross and Hahnemann gathers.
30 mins - Treatment: After two minutes of treatment Dunne is stretchered off to be replaced by Sun Jihai.
27 mins - Massive blow for City as they lose inspirational skipper Richard Dunne. The City defender came across to clear from Hunt but appeared to go over on his ankle in the challenge.
26 mins - No goals yet but it's a good game, with both teams pushing forward. The two teams need the points for very different reasons as the hosts are in the bottom three on goal difference while City are looking to boost their European hopes after just two wins in their last 11 league games.
25 mins - Harsh booking for James Harper as he cleanly won the ball before connecting with Gelson. The Reading midfielder rightly has a go at referee Uriah Rennie. Thankfully for Reading the free-kick comes to nothing.
23 mins - Shocking miss by Vedran Corluka from the game's first clear-cut opportunity. Elano hits an inswinging free-kick from the right and Corluka sneaks in at the back post but somehow manages to side-foot the ball over from four yards. True defender's finish by the Croatian!
22 mins - First corner of the game won by City's Darius Vassell on the left but no pressure on Hahnemann as he takes Elano's corner.
20 mins - Outjumped: Oster gets to the byline and the right and the 5ft 9in Hunt manages to outjump the 6ft 3in Corluka at the back post. Hunt does well to direct his header goalwards but it's comfortably taken by Hart.
18 mins - First booking of the game goes to City and unsurprisngly it's Didi Hamann - that's his ninth of the season. The German midfielder brought down Hunt as he burst forward from halfway and although he argues, it was his second foul of the game too.
15 mins - Free-kick: Johnson wins a free-kick just outside the right side of the box but Elano's delivery is comfortbaly punched clear by keeper Marcus Hahnemann.
13 mins - Good footwork by Benjani takes him round Ivar Ingimarsson on the right side of the Reading box and to the byline but he loses control as he looks up for someone to pass to.
11 mins - Poor: City find Vassell deep on the left but his attempted centre sails harmlessly behind.
10 mins - Foothold: City have got a foothold in the game now and with Elano pulling the strings, are spraying it about nicely.
8 mins - Response from City after a positive start by the home side. Corluka gets down the right and checks inside before crossing for Darius Vassell at the far post. His touch falls back for Javier Garrido to blaze over from 25 yards on the left.
7 mins - Well-worked free-kick from Reading finds John Oster in the right side of the box and although he shrugsb off Michael Johnson's challenge, his square ball goes through a group of bodies in the box.
4 mins - Teasing cross by Steve Hunt from the left and it's well taken by City keeper Joe Hart on the edge of his six-yard box.
KIck-off: Reading get us under way and make a postive start with John Oster crossing into the side-netting from deep on the right.
Fitness boost: Man City star Elano is fit after being kicked out of last week's 0-0 draw at home to Wigan. Javier Garrido comes in for the injured Nedum Onuoha, while Didi Hamann returns to the City midfield in place of Stephen Ireland.
Unchanged: No surprises from Reading boss Steve Coppell as he names the same line-up that won 1-0 at Middlesbrough last week to end their eight-match losing streak.
Man City: Joe Hart; Javier Garrido, Vedran Corluka, Richard Dunne, Michael Ball; Darius Vassell, Didi Hamann, Elano, Michael Johnson, Gelson Fernandes; Benjani Mwaruwari.
Reading: Marcus Hahnemann; Liam Rosenior, Andre Bikey, Ivar Ingimarsson, Nicky Shorey; John Oster, James Harper, Marek Matejovsky, Steve Hunt; Kevin Doyle, Shane Long.
