Niko Kranjcar Jermaine Defoe Portsmouth v Sunderland

Full time: A beautiful chip from Jermain Defoe and an own goal from Nigel Reo-Coker secure Portsmouth victory over Aston Villa.

90+2 - Utaka drives at Laursen but his shot goes over the crossbar. It's too late for Villa to get anything from the game now.

90+1 - Four minutes of added time will be played. I'm not sure where the referee has found that much time from.

90 - Mellberg is off for Villa after his second yellow of the game, the veteran defender tripping Utaka.

86 - There's less than five minutes to go here at Fratton Park and Portsmouth look certain to hold on for the win.

84 - Substitution for Portsmouth: Kanu on for Baros. Baros receives applause from his manager after a strong performance.

82 - Substitution for Portsmouth: Utaka on for Defoe. Defoe is sacrificed by Redknapp after Muntari's sending off.

81 - Muntari is sent off for Portsmouth with his seventh red card in two years. He gets caught on the ball and shows his frustration pulling down Salifou. Deserved sending off for Muntari who has been persistent in his fouling this afternoon.

79 - Substitution for Villa: Salifou on for Bouma.

78 - Young plays a ball into the box where there's three waiting Villa men but James confidently runs out to punch the ball to safety.

77 - Redknapp is looking calm on the sidelines as his team look confident in holding on to their clean sheet.

75 - James makes an excellent save from Young's free kick that expertly curls around the Pompey wall.

73 - Harewood taps the ball into the net but it's rightly flagged offside.

72 - A brilliant chance for Kranjcar, his right footed shot goes wide of the goal. He should of at least hit the target with that effort.

70 - Muntari is played in by Diarra, takes a good shot at goal forcing Carson into a save.

69 - Young sends a brilliant ball to the far post but it's too close to James for Villa to attack. Portsmouth have the chance to break again.

67 - Would you believe it? Another free kick for Villa. Barry sends it into the box but Hreidarsson heads it away for a Villa throw. No Villa men were challenging for that.

67 - Portsmouth play the ball well across the centre of the park and Muntari tries his luck at a shot from 20 yards.

65 - Lauren brings down Agbonlahor and Barry has another chance to whip in a decent free kick. Diop heads it away for a corner after appeals of handball.

63 - Mellberg is also showing his frustration, holding back Kranjcar. That's a booking for the Villa defender.

63 - Villa manager Martin O'Neill is shouting his orders from the sidelines. He must be frustrated to see his side waste so many chances.

61 - Yet another free kick in this game, this time to the home side. Muntari fails to get the ball off the ground and Portsmouth begin their attack again.

60 - Harewood is causing problems for the Portsmouth defence as he powers a shot at goal. Luckily for Pompey, James was in the right place to save.

57 - A strong corner finds Knight in the box but his header isn't on target and Pompey get away with it yet again. Villa are wasting their chances today.

57 - Substitution for Villa: Harewood on for Maloney.

56 - Muntari is being given so much space down the left for Pompey, if Villa carry on like this Pompey will add more goals.

54 - Kranjcar steers a shot at goal with his left foot and it goes into the side netting. The fans behind the goal thought it was in.

53 - Kranjcar delivers a beautiful ball to Muntari but it's a tight angle and it's a goal kick for Villa. Portsmouth's players are beginning to show off.

49 - Maloney plays ball straight across goal but it looks like Agbonlahor saw it too late to get a decent touch. He should have buried that for Villa.

47 - Villa have a free kick from 35 yards out - a goal now would get them straight back into the game.

46 - A confident Portsmouth side get the second half underway at Fratton Park.

Half time: Portsmouth go in two goals ahead at the break after a perfectly timed chip from Jermain Defoe and a lucky Reo-Coker own goal. Harry Redknapp certainly looks pleased with that first half display.

45 - Two minutes added time are signalled by the fourth referee as Villa look to get back into the game before the break.

44 - Laursen isn't happy as he receives an elbow in the face from Baros. I'm not sure whether it was intentional but Laursen has a cut on his face to show for his defensive efforts.

42 - Maloney takes the free kick but slips and Portsmouth have the chance to break.

41 - Muntari has got to be careful - he's the wrong side of Barry and trips the Villa fan. Maloney is standing over the dead ball.

38 - GOAL!!! - Another error from Carson who attempts to clear, but it comes off Reo-Coker and straight into the net. Reo-Coker was very unlucky there but Portsmouth have their second goal of the afternoon.

36 - First booking of the game goes to Muntari, his late challenge bringing down Young.

36 - Another free kick is wasted by Villa as Barry's set piece is comfortably saved by James.

34 - Villa are struggling to get a shot on target as Pompey remain resilient.

32 - A misplaced pass finds Maloney and Villa try to play quick passes into the box. Carew gets the ball but Diop stops him from turning and Pompey clear the danger.

30 - Distin shows his athletic prowess as he dispossesses Carew down the right.

28 - There's no other options on for Reo-Coker as tries a shot but Diarra gets enough on it to block, sending it to James.

27 - Diop is back on the pitch and Portsmouth are pushing forward.

25 - Young is ordered to re-take his free kick after the referee has words with the tussling players in the box. His corner is aiming for Carew but James stands his ground to collect.

24 - Barry delivers a decent corner and Diop gets a head on it to send it wide. The Pompey man has landed awkwardly on his shoulder and is off to receive treatment.

23 - Young weaves his way down the right for Villa and wins a free kick on the edge of the box. Mellberg and Laursen are up for the free kick.

18 - It's straight down the other end and Baros takes a shot that Carson parries for his defence to clear.

17 - James pulls off a great save to his left after Carew gets the slightest of touches on Young's ball into the box. A stretching Mellberg can't quite make contact.

16 - The home fans are in a bouyant mood now after taking the lead, singing the praises of their manager.

11 - GOAL!!! Defoe chips Carson and the Villa back two to take the lead for Pompey. A lovely timed chip by Defoe from the edge of the box. That's four goals in his last four appearances against Villa.

10 - Diarra tries another from long range and it's cleared for a corner. He waves away an approaching Kranjcar, it looks like he wants to take this corner.

9 - Strong appeals for a penalty from Pompey as Bouma brings down Baros but the free kick is given on the edge of the box. Carew easily clears the set piece.

9 - The visitors are on top in the opening minutes of the game.

8 - Diarra's recent luck with his long range efforts has run out - his shot from 30 yards looks like it has left the ground.

4 - A few players are losing their footing as the rain pours down here at Fratton Park.

3 - Maloney gets the first shot on target in the game but James gets down well to his right to save.

1 - Maloney tries an effort from an extremely tight angle but it goes straight to James who sends the ball upfield.

Kick off: Referee Chris Foy gets the game underway in front of watching England manager Fabio Capello. No doubt he'll be keeping a close eye on goalkeepers Scott Carson and David James.
