Wayne Rooney Manchester United Premier League Football Wigan

Rooney goes down to win United's first-half penalty

FINAL WHISTLE: It''s all over and the Premier League trophy stays at Old Trafford. There may have been some controversial moments at the JJB today but it's hard to argue they are deserved winners. Thanks for joining me for this fantastic climax to the season and don't forget you can rate the players' performance, read reports and reaction to a great day for the Red Devils.

Bolton equaliser: Chelsea are stunned by Wanderers as Matt Taylor equalises at Stamford Bridge - and the title is United's

92 - Great chance: Heskey gets in a header but it's tame and is straight at the keeper. He should have done better there - and knows it!

Added time: Only moments left to go now. Vidic denies Valencia as the home team mount a late challenge.

88 - Good save: Van der Saar gets down sharply at his near post to save from Figueroa. Wigan are fighting to the end.

87 - Off the line: Giggs pops up at the other end now to clear off his own goalline after good work from Heskey. That could have made for a nervous last few moments.

85 - Keep ball: Fergie's men are now trying to keep hold of possession and run down the clock. Fair play to Wigan though - they've competed well.

Going wild: Teemu from Finland is celebrating back home as is Mel who is serenading me with Championes via email - an interesting concept.

82 - In full voice: The travelling fans are in full cry now. They think the title's theirs.

79 - GOAL UNITED: That's clinched the title for the visitors - and it's Giggs who seals it. The substitute is picked out by Rooney's perfect through ball and he slides it past Kirkland to surely confirm another Premier League crown.

76 - Booked: Valencia is cautioned for a clumsy challenge on Vidic.

72 - Powered wide: Vidic climbs and threatens to seal it for United but his effort goes narrowly wide.

71 - Clever free-kick: Ronaldo fools the Wigan defence and slides in Rooney. He tries to pick a pass but his effort is cleared at the expense of a corner.

Substitution: Sibierski is introduced. Meanwhile Fulham have grabbed the lead at Portsmouth and Birmingham are now ahead against Blackburn.

68 - What a chance: Koumas delivers a superb ball onto the head of Heskey who climbs well but puts his header a foot over the bar. Great opportunity there.

66 - Substitution: Scholes makes way for Owen Hargreaves. Some would argue he should have left the pitch some time earlier!!

65 - Wasted: wigan get chance to put pressure on van der Saar's goal but Koumas wastes the opportunity.

64 - Wigan threat: A rare home attack is snuffed out by Ferdinand.

62 - Chelsea goal: Bad news from Stamford Bridge for United fans. Andrei Shevchenko has given Chelsea the lead against Bolton so the Red Devils need to make sure they hang on here.

61 - Warming up: Ryan Giggs is getting ready to come on and play his part in United's title party.

Bennett blunders: Al from Worcestershire can't believe how bad Steve Bennett is while Amit from Cheshire thinks he should send himself off.

City shocker: In case you're not keeping up with other games, Manchester City are having a torrid afternoon and are 4-0 down at Middlesbrough. It's still 0-0 at Stamford Bridge while Reading look safe - they're leading 2-0 at Derby.

58 - Another super stop: Kirkland is on hand again to deny the away side, this time getting down well to deny Tevez. The England man is in great form today.

57 - Rooney fury: Rooney loses his rag after he's penalised for handball on his way to goal. He has a go at Bennett who shows him a yellow card

55 - What a save: Rooney teases the Wigan defence and lets fly from 20 yards. Kirkland gets down fast to turn the ball round the post for a corner. That was a top effort from the former Liverpool man.

52 - PENALTY SURELY: Scholes breaks into the box and Bramble slides in and takes man but nothing of the ball. Bennett looks to his assistant for help but he gives nothing. That looked far more of a penalty than the earlier challenge on Rooney but again the officials make a mess of it. What do you think of that call United fans.

52 - Cleared: Rooney finds space on the left but can't pick out a teammate. The visitors are looking more comfortable.

Salute: Thanks to David in Tikrit for getting in touch. He's expecting further goals from Tevez and Rooney to seal United's title. Robin from Honfleur thinks it could all turn around though. Latest news on John Terry is a partial dislocation of the elbow so his fitness for Moscow must be in grave doubt.

48 - Free-kick: Ronaldo takes aim again after a foul by Titus Bramble. The Portuguese fires it in but Kirkland tips it over the bar. They play a short corner but Carrick loses out and the danger is cleared.

47 - Neat: United look like they are going to try and keep better control of the ball this half. They are stringing together some decent passes at the start of the second period.

We're off again: It's absolutely pouring down at the JJB but the players are ready to go. The pitch looks very heavy now. James from South Africa joins me in saying the ref's having a shocker while Peter from Israel has divided loyalties.

Delay: The Premier League are trying to make sure everyone kicks off the second periods at the same time so, due to John Terry's injury we're waiting a little longer to get things underway. News on Terry is he has a suspected broken arm - bad news for his hopes of leading Chelsea in Moscow.

Disbelief: Marten from Sweden can't believe the referee's decisions. Neither can Dave who is pleading for consistency.

Feedback: Linda in Dublin is still nervous while Marty in Australia is cock-a-hoop. Bruno in Portugal thinks the ball came off Ferdinand's shoulder and Scholes should not have got a second booking. Any other thoughts on those first-half incidents. Let me know - chris.harvey@bskyb.com

HALF-TIME: Bennett blows for the interval and United go in one to the good while it's still goalless at Stamford Bridge. United have certainly had the rub of the green there; they could have conceded a penalty for handball, had Scholes sent off yet they lead courtesy of a disputed penalty from Ronaldo. I'm going for a quick cuppa then will round up your feedback (thanks - there's loads of it!) before bringing you the second half.

44 - Good tackle: United get four on two going forward, Ronaldo plays the ball slightly wide and Koumas covers yards to get in a great saving tackle. Good effort by the midfielder.

42 - Hang on: Tevez skips down the left and gets in a good low cross which Kirkland clings onto. It's pouring down in Lancashire now so the big keeper does well to cling on under pressure from Rooney.

Jubilant: United fans all over the world think the title's theirs including Callum from Worthing, Luke, Bill from Chad and Pete from the USA.

36 - Just wide: Bent gets a chance to level things but he puts his shot into the side-netting. What an opening.

34 - Bottled it: Scholes blocks out Palacios deliberately and is penalised. It looks like a second bookable offence but all he receives is a lecture from referee Bennett. If he's not been booked before he'd have received another caution for that. All the big decisions are going the visitors' way here. Bennett should have applied the letter of the law and sent Scholes off for that.

GOAL - RONALDO SCORES: Ronaldo puts the ball down and places the ball to Kirkland's left. The Wigan keeper goes the wrong way and United are in the lead. Coolly taken effort but fortune is favouring the visitors after Ferdinand got away with what looked a handball at the other end. Are you United fans sitting more comfortably now. Let me know - chris.harvey@bskyb.com

31 - PENALTY: Rooney goes down under the challenge of Boyce. It looked a little clumsy but the England man certainly made the most of it. Steve Bennett is in no doubt and points to the spot.

28 - Dragged across: Ronaldo is finding more space and he tries to pick out Tevez but Kirkland is able to watch the ball go across his six-yard box to safety.

26 - Tension: United fans around the world are biting their nails, including Jon from Perth, Australia and Carina - who can't bear to watch either.

24 - Danger: Ronaldo wins a free-kick. It's a long way out but he puts the ball down ready to have a crack from 35 yards. The ball bounces in front of Kirkland who claws the ball away. The ball is returned to the danger area and eventually out for a corner.

23 - Penalty appeal: Koumas gets in a shot which hits Ferdinand's upper arm and is deflected away. Referee Bennett gives nothing. Was it arm to ball? Looked it to me.

23 - Opening: Rooney finds Ronaldo in behind the defence. He tries to pick out Scholes but Wigan clear the danger. Good opportunity there for the visitors.

22 - Bent over: Another Koumas corner finds Bent's head but he nods it over when well positioned. He was leaning back a little but could have done better. It's certainly been an encouraging start from the hosts.

19 - chance: Koumas' corner finds Heskey who keeps the ball alive. Emmerson Boyce throws a leg at it but can't keep his shot down and it flies over.

18 - Wide: Scholes lets fly on his weaker left side but pulls his shot wide of the post. Mary in Luxembourg is keeping her fingers crossed for a United win.

17 - Good ball: Carrick finds Tevez in space but he miscontrols. Could well have been offside too.

Bridge update: I'm receiving reports from the Chelsea game that John Terry has been stretchered off with what appears to be a shoulder injury. I'll keep you posted on that one.

15 - Snuffed out: Rooney gets on the end of a long ball from Ronaldo but he is blocked out by Scharner

Around the grounds: Still no goals to report at Stamford Bridge but Reading have given themselves a lifeline by taking the lead at Derby.

13 - Booked: Scholes goes through the back of Wilson Palacios and is shown a yellow card by Steve Bennett. He can have few complaints there.

12 - High and wide: Koumas skips away from Scholes and gets in a left-foot shot but it's well over the bar. Linda's too nervous to watch so is sticking with us for the duration. good choice Linda!

10 - Chipped in: Good build up play from the visitors involving Scholes, Tevez and Rooney sees Ronaldo stab an effort forward but it's straight into Kirkland's midriff.

Confident: Muhammad believes the title is United's but Ben's not so sure and expects Wigan to give a good account of themselves.

7 - Ronaldo try: Cristiano Ronaldo finds some room and cuts in from the right but his left-footed effort is pulled well wide of Kirkland's post.

5 - Koumas crack: Jason Koumas charges forward into a wide open space and tries his luck from 20 yards but his shot is dragged wide. Wigan look enterprising and their illustrious visitors a bit nervous.

3 - Bent effort: Marcus Bent makes strides down the right and gets a shot in but it's well wide. Ivana in Malta and Deano in Dublin are all cheering on United - but your boys have shown nothing in the opening exchanges. Wigan certainly look up for it.

2 - First shot: Michael Brown has the first attempt on goal but he scuffs his effort which barely reaches Edwin van der Saar.

We're off: and the ball finds its way to Chris Kirkland for an early touch. Ed in Galway is studying for exams so can't get near a TV. He reckons it'll be 2-0 United. Chetan in Wembley is also knee deep in revision so stick with us Chetan.

We're underway - almost: Kick-off has been delayed at Stamford Bridge so Rooney and Tevez are forced to hang on a few minutes.

Ready to go: The teams are out at the JJB and we're just minutes away from kick-off. Everyone begins at 3pm today so there could be a slight delay.

Feedback: Keep talking to me throughout the 90 minutes. I want to know your thoughts on how the game pans out. You can also rate the players' performances during the game through skysports.com. Email me at chris.harvey@bskyb.com with your thoughts.

Stuck at work: George in Wrexham can't get to a TV so he's get the next best thing to Sky Sports' coverage. Stick with me George and I'll do my best to talk you through the action.

Ready for the off: Alex is delighted by the attacking intent in the United side while Reza thinks it's going to be a 5-0 canter for the visitors.

Statement of intent: Sir Alex has backed his best line-up to dop the business for him this afternoon. He looks calm and collected in front of our cameras ahead of a tense afternoon. Steve Bruce on the other hand looks uncomfortable as he fields questions about the likely effort his side will put in. Only time will tell.

Northern connection: Boro fan Rachel says she's hoping for a United win to keep the trophy in the north. She also hopes for a couple more Red Devils at The Riverside next season!

Concern: Avi is worried about Steve Bruce's Manchester United connection and can't see Wigan putting up much of a fight. Not sure I agree Avi - I think Wigan, with the TV cameras on them, will give it their best.

No doubt: Elliott is convinced the trophy is staying at Old Trafford while Guy from Canada is concerned they won't be able to present the trophy today. Don't worry Guy - the FA have made arrangements to present it at either the JJB or Stamford Bridge.

Predictions: So the teams are in. Anyone got any sneaky predictions? Let me know - chris.harvey@bskyb.com

Man Utd line-up: Van der Sar, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Carrick, Scholes, Park, Tevez, Rooney. Subs: Kuszczak, Hargreaves, Saha, Giggs, Silvestre.

Wigan line-up Wigan: Kirkland, Boyce, Bramble, Scharner, Figueroa, Valencia, Palacios, Brown, Koumas, Bent, Heskey. Subs: Pollitt, Sibierski, Taylor, King, Skoko.

Team news: The good news for the Premier League leaders is Wayne Rooney is passed fit to lead the line. Owen Hargreaves is on the bench while Nani is suspended.
