FULL-TIME: It's all over in Vienna and Germany are going through to the quarter-finals after a 1-0 win over Austria. Michael Ballack's stunning free-kick proves to be the difference to set up a last eight meeting with Croatia, while Austria join fellow co-hosts Switzerland in bowing out at the group phase.

94 - Neuville misses: Great chance for Germany to score a second as they break forward, but substitute Neuville seems a bit undecided about what to do before steering his shot wide of goal.

93- Substitution: Tim Borowski comes on for the last few seconds to replace Fritz. Should he really get a cap for this cameo?

92 - Frings goes close: In stoppage-time, Germany's holding midfielder Frings makes a burst forward and drives a low shot just past Macho's left-hand post.

89 - Good block from Macho: Germany almost catch Austria on the break as Klose finds a yard of space in the box and he hits a well-struck shot on the swivel which Macho is equal to and beats away,

84 - Flashed wide: Austria manage to keep the ball alive and Hoffer turns well in the box, but his snap-shot is a couple of yards wide of Lehmann's post. Time is running out for the Austrians.

83 - Substitution: Germany make their second change of the night as the evergreen Oliver Neuville comes on for Podolski - maybe he will score the second for you Anne!

82 - Great tackle by Lahm: The Germany full-back produces a superb challenge inside the box to divert the ball away from Ivanschitz, who had scented an equaliser for Austria.

80 - Macho recovers well: He is back on his feet and is alert to punch clear a corner which is deflected on at the near post by his own player and he then reacts smartly to hold on to Mertesacker's header.

79 - Macho hurt: The Austrian keeper needs treatment after getting an accidental whack from Klose as the two players moved in to meet the ball. It was a good save from Macho as Klose looked to take the ball round the keeper.

77 - Germans well drilled: It looks increasingly more difficult for Austria to break down their opponents now, with the Germans gradually taking the sting out of the game and forcing the co-hosts to play hopeful balls down the middle.

74 - Klose miscue: Klose got in to some space down the right and moved into the box, but despite Podolski being available in the middle, the striker slices his shot wide of target. Looks like Germany are more likely to score on the break, with Austria pressing for a goal.

Anne's in the driving seat: Anne in Hawaii is going for Podolski to score to make it 2-0 as per her prediction. There has only been one other prediction and that was 2-1 to Austria, which could still happen, but I'm just not sure where the goals are going to come from. Might be a bit late to put a call in to Hans Krankl.

68 - Kienast gets involved: The Austrian striker is looking to make an immediate impact as he has one attempt blocked and then glances a header wide of the post.

67 - Substitution: Austria make their final change and it is an attacking one as Roman Kienast comes on for Harnik, who has had a disappointing game.

66 - Hungry for tackling: Pogatetz gets in a great block to deny Klose, who had managed to wriggle free inside the box.

65 - Has Poga eaten? Hans wonders whether Pogatetz has had his pre-match meal as he tries to take a chunk out of the ball as a decision goes against Austria!

63 - Substitution: Austria make their second change with Aufhauser replaced by Jurgen Saumel and I would think he should add a little bit more zip to the co-hosts' play.

60 - Substitution: It's taken an hour, but Gomez is finally being put out of his misery as he is replaced by former Aston Villa midfielder Thomas Hitzlsperger. Podolski will surely go up front to partner club colleague Klose.

59 - Good build-up: Austria are trying to get back on an even keel after falling behind and work the ball well down the left flank, but Korkmaz's cross when in a good position is blocked by Friedrich. That's where Austria are just falling short, getting that final ball into the box with good quality.

55 - Substitution: Austria make the first change of the night with Christoph Leitgeb coming on and Martin Hiden going off. A positive change from the co-hosts, but will it pay dividends?

53 - Croatia in front: In the other game in the group, Croatia have taken the lead against Poland through Ivan Klasnic, so Germany are in a very strong position right now to take the runners-up spot.

52 - Lahm burst again: The Germany full-back shows great dash to cut in from the left and drills a low shot just past the post. Anne is wondering whether the ref is married, as the two coaches were sent off for constant bickering!

49 - GOAL! From the free-kick Germany take the lead and it is an absolute belter. With a run-up a fast bowler would be proud of, Ballack steams in towards the ball and unleashes an absolute rocket which flies into the top corner at a zillion miles an hour, and Macho has no chance.

48 - Yellow card: Lahm makes a great run from the left side towards the penalty area in field, but he is tripped quite cynically from behind by Ivanschitz 25 yards from goal and the Austrian captain is quite rightly booked.

46 - Hoffer hesitates: The Austrian striker latched on to a mistake from Mertesacker, robbing the ball from the defender just inside the German half. He bursts towards the box, but as the defenders get back, he doesn't know what to do and the chance is gone. A good moment goes begging for Austria there.

46 - We're back: Germany get things going in the second half, with both sides sticking with the XI who started the match. How long will it be before the deadlock is broken? Let me know at mark.buckingham@bskyb.com

45 - HALF-TIME: The whistle blows for the break and it's 0-0 in Vienna, with Germany having the best chance of the half when Gomez somehow managed to miss from right in front of goal. Both coaches have been sent to the stands in what has been an even first half, and you can't rule out Austria nicking a goal. In the other game between Poland and Croatia it's also 0-0, so Germany are currently the team going through in second behind Croatia.

I don't know either Anne: Anne in Hawaii has been in touch to say the ref has been a bit fussy tonight and she can't understand why the two coaches have been sent off, I haven't got a clue either - seemed like something and nothing, there's not really been anything in the game to get that excited about!

40 - Both coaches sent off: Austria coach Josef Hickersberger has been sent to the stands by the referee and he has been joined in the stands by Germany boss Joachim Low. Not quite sure what's gone on there, Hickersberger has certainly been having a bit of a row with the fourth official and maybe Low got involved as well. It's going to be interesting what happens with the substitutions in the second half now. What do you think of what has just happened? Email in at mark.buckingham@bskyb.com

39 - Good pressure from Austria: The co-hosts show good technical ability to create some space in wide positions, on both the right and left flanks, but they are unable to make the delivery count. Austria's problem in getting that goal is definitely going to be the lack of a top-notch striker.

36 - Maybe worth a change: With Gomez having done little either tonight or in the tournament, I wonder when Low may move Podolski in from the left. Podolski has looked dangerous when he has taken up a central position and is probably Germany's brightest player so far.

34 - Klose heads wide: The Germany striker climbs well to meet a corner, but he is unable to guide inside the post. The game has gone a little flat, which is in Germany's favour as Austria are struggling to create chances.

31 - Yellow card: Hoffer is the second Austrian to pick up a yellow card after a late challenge on Ballack. It was a bit robust and a little late, so I guess it was probably fair. Ballack is up and about.

26 - Off the ball incident: Aufhauser may well be a little bit fortunate to escape a red card after raising his arm to push Podolski in an off-the-ball incident. Podolski made a meal of the incident, but it did look as though Aufhauser may have caught him slightly in the face. A needless action from Aufhauser and it was a good job the ref didn't see it.

25 - As it stands: With the score in the other game between Poland and Croatia also 0-0, it will be Germany who go through as the group runners-up at this stage. But will it stay that way?

23 - Power from Podolski: The Bayern Munich man finds himself in the centre of the pitch 25 yards from goal and he rifles a fierce shot through the Austrian defence which Macho does extremely well to get down to and turn wide.

21 - Strange save by Lehmann: Not sure whether the Germany keeper had his angles wrong there, but he has turned a shot from Aufhauser wide which was going a good yard wide. Fortunately, Germany defend the corner well and the ball is now back up by the halfway line.

19 - Lehmann out well: Hoffer again gets behind the Germany back-line inside the box, but his touch deserts him slightly and Lehmann is out sharply to smother the ball.

Head in his Hans: Hans from Denmark says Gomez's miss was the miss of the century, never mind the tournament, and wonders why Gomez didn't head it at the second attempt. I must agree with you there, but Gomez is having a stinker of a tournament, so he may still have managed to head it over the bar!

17 - Penalty shout: A superb ball out of defence from Pogatetz finds Hoffer in the box and as he tries to wriggle away from Metzelder the two players fall to the ground - an accidental tangle, rather than any deliberate contact or tug from Metzelder and I would say the ref got that spot on.

13 - Yellow card: Stranzl gets booked for a trip on Klose, but I'm not sure he even touched the Germany striker. A dubious decision from the ref, and hopefully one that won't come back to haunt the Austrians, with a defender on a yellow card at this early stage of what has been a bitty game so far.

11 - Formation change: Having looked a little closer, Austria are not playing 4-3-3, but actually a 3-5-2/5-3-2 formation with Garics and Fuchs tucking in as full-backs alongside three centre-backs when Austria don't have the ball. Is this the way to combat Germany? Let me know at mark.buckingham@bskyb.com

9 - It's the Gomez show: This time he gets down the left again after being played in by Klose, but when he flicks the ball beyond Stranzl he drops to the floor knowing he has got no chance of latching on to a loose touch. Maybe someone else needs to get in a promising position for Germany.

7 - Better from Gomez: The striker tries to redeem himself and makes a good burst down the left channel, but his shot is a bit optimistic from the corner of the area and it is an easy save for Macho.

5 - What a miss: Just when I thought Gomez was going to make me eat my words, he contrives to miss from about five yards in front of goal. Good work on the right side of the area from Klose and he rolls the ball across the six-yard box to the unmarked Gomez. It bounces up off his foot and loops towards goal, but Garics heads off the line. I'm not sure Gomez could have achieved that sort of contact if he had tried - desperate miss, probably the worst of the tournament so far!

4 - Glue-footed Gomez: Germany pounce on an Austrian error and break with menace towards the box, but when the ball reaches Gomez on the edge of the area, he is slow to turn and get it under control, allowing Austria to clear. I must say I've not been impressed with Gomez so far in Euro 2008.

3 - Positive Austria: It looks like Austria are certainly not going to end this game wondering if they did enough as they have gone with a 4-3-3 formation and send a long ball forward which has Lehmann quickly out of his goal to boot clear.

Aloha Anne: Anne has emailed in and says she is afraid to make a prediction after the Czech-Turkey game last night, but nonetheless is going for 2-0 to Germany. Any other predictions out there as the game starts in a scrappy fashion?

0 - Kick-off: Austria, with Martin Hiden winning his 50th cap, get things going in Vienna in the Ernst Happel Stadion. Who are going to be the key players tonight?

What do you think? Has Low made the right decision to leave out Jansen following the full-back's display against Croatia? And how should Germany approach the game knowing a point will take them through? What about Austria's game-plan? Do they get on the front foot straight from kick-off, or would it be best to play cautious and go for broke in the latter stages? Email in at mark.buckingham@bskyb.com

Germany team: Lehmann; Friedrich, Mertesacker, Metzelder, Lahm; Fritz, Frings, Ballack, Podolski; Gomez, Klose.

Team news: Germany coach Joachim Low has made just the one change from the side which started in the 2-1 defeat to Croatia and, not surprisingly it has to be said, Marcell Jansen has been dropped. Arne Friedrich comes into the team at right-back, with Philipp Lahm shifting over to the left in place of Jansen Germany are also without the suspended Bastian Schweinsteiger, who was sent off after coming on as a sub against Croatia.

Austria team: Macho; Garics, Stranzl, Hiden, Pogatetz; Harnik, Aufhauser, Ivanschitz, Fuchs, Korkmaz; Hoffer.

Team news: Austria make three changes to the team which started the 1-1 draw with Poland as Martin Hiden, Erwin Hoffer and Christian Fuchs come into the side, with Christoph Leitgeb, Roland Linz and Sebastian Prodl making way.
