Jermaine Jenas England Switzerland Tranquilo Barnetta Wembley

90+3 - Full time: James blots his copybook with a late flap, but England escape and the final whistle sounds.

90 - Added time: Three additional minutes will be played.

87 - Rooney exit: The England striker has been impressive tonight and he gets a standing ovation as he is replaced by Ashley Young.

84 - Swiss change: Benjamin Huggel comes on for Gelson Fernandes.

80 - Great move: Rooney, Gerrard and Crouch combine well, with the England skipper eventually firing over the bar.

73 - Double switch: Wayne Bridge and Owen Hargreaves come on for Ashley Cole and Gareth Barry.

67 - Crouch chance: Bentley picks out the giant striker with a clever ball into the area, but his volley from 10 yards is too close to the goalkeeper.

64 - Great skill: Rooney shows his class with a superb turn 25 yards out before unleashing a low drive which curls just wide.

63 - Another change: Yakin is replaced by Xavier Margairaz in Switzerland's fifth change.

62 - GOAL!!! England respond immediately with Crouch flicking on, Rooney feeding Gerrard and the skipper crossing for Wright-Phillips to tap into an empty net with Switzerland appealing in vain for offside.

58 - GOAL!!! Half-time substitute Derdiyok fires a superb equaliser beyond James from just inside the area after being set up by Hakan Yakin's through-ball.

57 - Double change: Goalscorer Jenas makes way for Shaun Wright-Phillips with Joe Cole being replaced by Peter Crouch.

55 - Swiss switch: Senderos makes way for Stephane Grichting.

54 - Great save: A spell of England pressure ends with Jenas firing goalwards from the edge of the box, but Benaglio produces a stunning one-handed diving stop to tip the ball around the post.

52 - Great effort: Bentley flicks a clever ball through the Swiss defence for Rooney to run onto, with the United striker's audacious attempted chip drifting just over the bar.

48 - Close call: Joe Cole and David Bentley combine, with the Blackburn winger's clever cross finding an unmarked Rooney. But the striker's first touch is poor, and he knows little about his second as the ball ricochets past the post.

46 - Second half: England get the second period under way, with everyone hoping for a more energetic and exciting display. Switzerland have three new faces on the field with Eren Derdiyok, Valon Behrami and Johann Vonlanthen replacing Daniel Gygax, Stephan Lichsteiner and Blaise Nklufo.

45+1 - Half-time: A largely average England display has been saved by one moment of quality from Joe Cole, who should take the vast majority of the credit for Jenas' goal.

45 - Added time: One additonal minute will be played.

40 - GOAL!!! Joe Cole is found by Gerrard on the left flank, with the Chelsea man producing a superb jinking run into the box to put it on a plate for Jenas, who can't miss from six yards.

39 - England chance: Senderos gifts possession to Jenas, before Rooney takes over finding Gerrard. He feeds Joe Cole, whose shot is parried and Rooney can't take advantage of the follow-up.

38 - Good effort: Joe Cole and Gerrard combine well for the latter to drive goalwards from the edge of the box, but Benaglio gets down swiftly to save.

36 - Subdued: The lack of action or excitement on the field has left the Wembley crowd so quiet that it's very easy to hear the players shouting to each other.

32 - Missed opportunity: Bentley splits the Swiss defence and releases Jenas, but rather than immediately squaring for Joe Cole, he delays and allows Benaglio to smother his eventual cross.

27 - England escape: Joe Cole's rash challenge gives Switzerland a free-kick out on the right, and from Hakan Yakin's dangerous cross Philippe Senderos flicks on and Mario Eggimann heads wide with the goal at his mercy. England really should be 1-0 down.

26 - Over the top: England force two corners in quick succession, and from the second, Bentley's kick is met powerfully by Rio Ferdinand, but he cannot get his effort on target. Brown was just behind his United team-mate, and was arguably better placed.

22 - Easy claim: Switzerland force a corner, but the high, hanging kick is far too easy for James.

20 - Poor defending: Wes Brown's fluffed clearance again gives Barnetta a chance to shoot, but he lashes his effort from just outside the box narrowly wide of James' near post.

19 - Cheeky flick: Ashley Cole fires in a low cross towards the near post, where Rooney flicks goalwards with the outside of his boot, but sends his effort just the wrong side of the post.

15 - Close call: Rooney tries to return the compliment for Joe Cole, but his pass has too much weight and goes through to Benaglio.

10 - Good save: Gerrard and Joe Cole combine with the latter threading an excellent ball through to Rooney, who attempts to lift it over Diego Benaglio, but the goalkeeper saves well.

8 - Headed wide: Bentley earns a free-kick on the edge of the Swiss box, and whips the ball in towards the near post where Wayne Rooney heads well off target.

7 - First shot: Steven Gerrard fails to clear on the edge of his own box, allowing Tranquillo Barnetta to fire in a shot which James comfortably deals with.

6 - Packed midfield: England's five-man midfield is being mirrored by the Swiss, and there is a real lack of space and time for everyone. Capello is off the bench to issue some early instructions.

2 - Good surface: The Wembley pitch has been relaid since the Croatia debacle in November and seems to be suiting some early crisp passing from England.

Kick-off: Switzerland, wearing white shirts with England in their new red away kit, get us under way.

Tribute: The players gather in the centre circle and Wembley falls silent for an impeccably observed minute's silence to mark the 50th anniversary of the Munich air crash.

Anthems: The Swiss national anthem is respected by the sell-out Wembley crowd. Capello does not join in with the singing of 'God Save the Queen', but he should soon know the words with Stuart Pearce belting it out alongside him.

Switzerland team: Benaglio, Senderos, Gygax, Barnetta, Spycher, Yakin, Inler, Lichsteiner, Nkufo, Fernandes, Eggimann. Subs: Zuberbuhler, Coltorti, Margairaz, Grichting, Behrami, Huggel, Vonlanthen, Ziegler, Derdiyok.

Owen out: As predicted, Michael Owen is not in Capello's XI, but there are starts for David James, Matthew Upson, Jermaine Jenas and David Bentley.

England team: James; Brown, Ferdinand, Upson, A Cole; Bentley, Jenas, Gerrard, Barry, J Cole; Rooney. Subs: Carson, Richards, Lescott, Woodgate, Bridge, Wright-Phillips, Hargreaves, Young, Owen, Crouch, Defoe, Kirkland.
