Commentary: Holland 2 Wales 0

Marco van Basten

Van Basten: Strong side

90 - Great save: Vennegoor of Hesselink volleys at goal, but Hennessey is in the right place to block.

88 - Late change: Neil Eardley comes on for Ledley.

84 - Unconventional: But effective as Hennessey comes flying off his line to punch clear a corner. Wales break and Bellamy forces a rare save from Van der Sar.

82 - Lively Kuyt: The Liverpool forward has produced a typical workman-like performance, but he also looks a little rusty in front of goal.

78 - Substitution: Mathijsen comes off for Celtic forward Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. This game did not need disrupting and the trademark friendly substitutions have not helped the flow.

76 - Cruise control: Holland are strolling to victory as Wales bring on Andrew Crofts for Ricketts.

73 - Substitution: Koumas heads off to put his feet up as Sam Vokes comes on.

71 - Brave: Gunter does well to head away a Sneijder cross. The ball could have drifted in and Gunter collides with the post. Gunter has been a rare bright light for Wales.

69 - Same old, same old: Bellamy has already drifted offside on half-a-dozen occasions. That is a constant negative of the West Ham striker.

66 - Substitution: The impressive Van der Vaart makes way for Ibrahim Afellay.

64 - Training exercise: This is a attack against defence drill for Holland as they pummel Wales. But they are so far failing the test as the final ball is badly lacking. As Robben blasts in to the side netting.

61 - All action: Bellamy is looking to prove a point as he dashes around the field, but there is little cutting edge.

59 - Another waste: Holland are pouring forward in waves, but if they are as wasteful with their chances at Euro 2008 as they have been here they look set for a short campaign.

56 - Substitution: Ched Evans and Craig Bellamy, who collects the captains armband, come on for David Edwards and Eastwood.

54 - GOAL HOLLAND!!! Sneijder scores a stunning free-kick. The Real Madrid man is 30 yards from goal and curls into the top left corner. Hennessey gets a touch to the ball, but cannot stop the Dutch netting.

51 - Corner: Holland have a corner as a spectacular Kuyt volley is deflected wide, but Hennessey claims.

49 - Keep ball: Wales cannot get a touch as Holland turn on the style, only a matter of time before a second.

48 - More of the same: Robben jinks around Hennessey but blazes over. The winger should have squared the ball as he had Kuyt lurking.

Wales changes: Jack Collison has come on for the Welsh in place of Robinson.

46 - WE'RE BACK: Holland get the second half under way. Gareth Hallet feels Wales' chances are over as they do not have a single player of capable of getting into the Dutch first XI. Holland have brought on Dirk Kuyt, Mario Melchiot and Nigel De Jong. Don't forget it is peter.fraser@bskyb.com if you want to get in touch.

45 + 1 - HALF-TIME: The first half comes to a close with Holland deservedly in front. Will Wales be able to find a way back in to the contest?

45 - Nervous: Van der Sar flaps at a cross, but Gunter can only head into the side netting. That was a good chance for Wales. There will be one minute added time.

43 - Shot on target: Wales finally trouble Edwin van der Sar as Eastwood shows quick feet, but drives straight at the Dutch goalkeeper.

41 - Land of the giants Holland's six foot, five inches central midfielder Orlando Engelaar is running the show and Rafael van der Vaart blasts just over.

39 - Frustrating: Ian has gone quiet as Holland take the lead. Eastwood and Ledley appear equally frustrated as they have seen little of the ball.

37 - Desperate Wales: The visitors are hanging on for the bell as Sneijder goes close from range.

35 - GOAL HOLLAND!!! Robben scores. What did I say? Wales concede for the first time in five internationals as Robben latches on to a poor back header from Robinson and shows too much pace for Gunter before bundling past Hennessey.

33 - Booking: Tottenham defender Chris Gunter goes in German referee Felix Brych's book for blocking Robben off the ball. Robben always looks twice the player of his Chelsea replacement Florent Malouda.

30 - Welsh word: Ian has given me a shout to say he likes what he has seen so far and fancies Wales to sneak this. Ian also reckons Holland should not bother travelling to the Euros this summer as, on this evidence, they do not stand a chance in Group C.

27 - Foul: Giovanni van Bronckhorst fouls on the edge of the box and Koumas has the chance to deliver into the danger zone. However, his attempt is a poor one and the ball drifts out of play. That sums it up for Wales, their attacking has been sub-standard.

24 - Flashbacks: It reminds me of awkward school discos when Wales grab the ball. The music stops and the ground falls silent at the exact moment you decide to shout out loud. Toshack appears to be the main offender.

22 - Great atmosphere: De Kuip stadium is proving an excellent venue, but whenever Wales gain control of the ball individual shouts can be heard as the ground falls silent.

21 - Good possession: Holland are dominating the ball, but are struggling to create a clear-cut opportunity.

18 - Corner Holland: The home side have the opportunity to deliver in to the box, but Wales - who are six games unbeaten - clear.

16 - Pre-watershed: Wales boss John Toshack does not seem to like what he has seen so far as he barks orders from the touchline. I will refrain from repeating his exact words for fear of putting you off your Sunday lunch.

14 - Great save: Wales shot-stopper Wayne Hennessey produces a fine stop low to his right as a Sneijder effort sneaks through the wall.

13 - Dramatic: Robben goes down a little easily under pressure on the edge of the box. Chance for Holland.

12 - Long month: Holland fan Brian Pale is desperate for a win as he prepares for a tense few weeks at Euro 2008. Will Holland finally produce the goods in Austria and Switzerland? They have the misfortune of a place in this year's 'Group of Death', or will it be more penalty shoot-out heartbreak?

Near miss: Joris Mathijsen heads narrowly over at a corner. Holland are knocking on the door.

9 - Under pressure: Wales are up against it. Looks like it is only a matter of time before Euro 2008-bound Holland open their account.

8 - Great block: Robinson shows no sign of jet-lag after jetting in from Toronto as he produces an excellent block on Arjen Robben.

6 - Skilfull Sneijder Real Madrid ace Wesley Sneijder is pulling the strings for Holland and Blackburn's want-away defender Andre Ooijer is having a lot of joy down the right.

5 - Good play: Good possession for the Dutch ends in Demy De Zeeuw dragging just wide, but Wales break and Samuel Ricketts stands a good cross to the far post, but he cannot find an opponent.

3 - Van Persie: Just caught a glimpse of Robin van Persie in the stands. The Arsenal forward is in the Dutch squad for Euro 2008, but Van Basten is taking his time in allowing the 24-year-old to return from a thigh injury and he is sitting out today.

1 - Crunching stuff: Does not look as if this is going to be a 'friendly' as Freddy Eastwood is already putting himself about. Wales are in all yellow, while Holland are in Blue.

KICK-OFF: Wales get the game going. Ajax fan Usman Ali has been in touch to say he feels sorry for Babel. Me too. I think the Liverpool winger could have had a great tournament at Euro 2008. However, Uz is expecting a Holland win and it is difficult to see any other result.

Wales team: Hennessey, Gunter, Williams, Morgan, Nyatanga, Ricketts, Robinson, Edwards, Ledley, Koumas, Eastwood. Subs: Myhill, Bellamy, Steve Evans, Eardley, Blake, Jacobson, Collison, Ched Evans, Vokes, Nardiello, Crofts, Ramsey.

Holland team: Van der Sar, Ooijer, Mathijsen, Heitinga, Van Bronckhorst, De Zeeuw, Engelaar, Van der Vaart, Sneijder, van Nistelrooy, Robben. Subs: Timmer, Melchiot, Bouma, De Cler, Stekelenburg, De Jong, Huntelaar, Afellay, Boulahrouz, Vennegoor of Hesselink.

Team news: Wigan's Jason Koumas captains Wales for the first time in a sold-out De Kuip stadium. The Wrexham-born midfielder leads a youthful Welsh side against a Dutch outfit playing their last warm-up game before Euro 2008. Wales have Hull play-off hero Sam Ricketts back in the side along with Toronto FC's Carl Robinson. Holland are without Liverpool's unlucky winger Ryan Babel, who was ruled out of Euro 2008 yesterday after tearing ankle ligaments. Manager Marco van Basten fields what many expect to be the side which will face Italy in their group opener in Berne on Monday week.
