Liverpool 1 Everton 0

That's it - Full-time Liverpool 1 Everton 0. Liverpool have completed the double over Merseyside rivals Everton this season and that puts a gap of five points between the two clubs. Rafa's side look almost guaranteed to bag fourth this term and this afternoon, they were always in control. Everton were not at the races from start to finish and can have few complaints about the final score. Many thanks for all of your emails, as ever they are greatly appreciated.

92 - Liverpool sub Gerrard is replaced by Crouch. Again, the Liverpool faithful show their utmost appreciation. Another top class display from the captain; not vintage but always good enough to see off Everton's somewhat languid threat.

91 - Howard finds a fine save to deny Gerrard, who surprised everyone in striking from range with a missile that Everton's American needed to push over.

90 - Liverpool sub Pennant comes on for Torres, before the darling of Anfield receives a standing ovation for his exertions.

87 - Torres booked for the second week in succession. This time for kicking the ball away. Silly yellow for the Spaniard. Everton fans, I'd love to offer you hope, but I just can't fathom how you can get back into the game now. In truth, you've been poor this afternoon.

86 - Kuyt so close as his bending effort from the edge of the area drifts inches wide, via a deflection off Fernandes. Everton clear the resulting corner.

84 - Reina's hesitancy nearly allows Hibbert to sneak in at the far post. It was only a half-chance but still Everton's best of the second half. They are still in it though as Liverpool have failed to find a second.

82 - Fernandes shoots from the edge of the box but his drive is blocked by Carragher, while at the other end Howard has to scamper off his line to collect Torres' right wing cross. Jagielka, rather than Lescott, has moved up front to play alongside Yakubu.

81 - Liverpool sub Benayoun has replaced Babel, who started strongly and then faded. Overall, though, the starlet has had a pretty good game.

80 - Everton's Hibbert and Fernandes are in unison berating the linesman on the left side as he awards Liverpool a goal-kick - it should have been an Everton corner. And that, my friends, is a highlight.

78 - Skrtel is loving derby day as in quick succession he gets in two hardy challenges. Ben Kent's certainly a fan - he's emailed in lavish praise on the Liverpool man. On this showing, I'd have to agree, he looks a good alternative to Agger next season.

76 - Bob the Blue is lamenting Cahill's absence as Everton toil to no avail. I agree mate, the Aussie's injury is a massive blow. On this showing, you'll do well to fend Portsmouth off for fifth place.

74 - I'd love to be regaling you with tales of goals and thunderous tackles but there's precious little to report in terms of chances. The tenseness of the league situation is keeping the intrigue but the football has hit a real lull. Both sides have been very sloppy in their distribution.

72 - Neville given a thunderous reception by the Anfield faithful as he's replaced by Baines. A Mancunian Evertonian who'll be ever loved in Liverpool.

71 - Jagielka booked for a robust challenge on Gerrard. Everton look to be preparing a substitute, with Baines warming up.

70 - Osman dwells on the ball and is brought back to earth via a thumping Skrtel challenge. He's looked pretty solid today the big stopper. What do all you Reds fans think of the rugged defender?

67 - Yobo again called into action as he shows all his defensive nous in thwarting Lucas. As I'm writing, Yobo gets in a third excellent challenge - this time to deny Gerrard, who had broken down the left.

65 - Spirited run from Arteta concludes as Riise gets a strong foot in. At the other end, Alonso has hit an absolute hum-dinger but the ball deflected off Yobo.

62 - Kuyt laments ref's decision not to award him a free-kick, as he thought he was impeded by Lescott. How long does Moyes leave it before he opts to put Lescott in a striker role? He's done it before, should he do it again? And does this desperation signify a real lack of depth in Everton's squad. Discuss, alex.dunn@bskyb.com.

61 - Everton sub The ineffective Pienaar is replaced by Fernandes. Can he make the difference for the Toffees?

60 - Yakubu lucky not to be booked for a laughable dive in the area under challenge from Hyypia. The Liverpool man timed his tackle to perfection, before Yakubu went down in stages - to collect his Bafta.

A set-piece is Everton's likeliest chance to get back into the contest and arguably Osman should have scored. It was a brilliant ball in and needed a flick header rather than the powerful effort he produced.

56 - Lucas concedes free-kick in a dangerous situation down Everton's left flank. It's a brilliant delivery too, as Osman's header flashes a yard or so wide.

54 - Gerrard fumes at Lucas as the Brazilian fails to deliver a simple ball into his skipper's path. The Brazilian had a decent first half but is struggling after the interval. I wouldn't be surprised to see his number held up before too long.

53 - Carsley must now watch himself as he's already been booked and has given away another couple of fouls already this half. Mehran from Pakistan is the second Liverpool fan to call for Crouch.

51 - Bit of a lull in the action here as Everton try in vain to find a way back into the contest. Yakubu has upped his work-rate and has won a couple of free-kicks but Arteta and Osman are struggling to grasp hold of the game in the centre of the field.

Russell Grant aka Tom Minter is back and going for 2-0 Liverpool - with Torres to bag a second. Any more predictions? Email on alex.dunn@bskb.com

48 - Pienaar booked for a crude foul on Babel, who rode Carsley's attempt to dump him with a quick turn of pace. He's been full of running this afternoon and a persistent danger man for Liverpool. Neville is moaning at his team-mates - not a great sign.

47 - Yak wakes up to win a corner off Hyypia down the side. Reina gets a solid fist to clear and Liverpool counter.

46 - Torres tries a chip when he would have been better feeding in his captain on the overlap. Twice Lucas has lost the ball in his own half, Benitez will be less than impressed with his youngster.

46 - Everton kick-off the second half. No changes but Pienaar and Neville have swapped flanks.

Doug has the solution! Fear not Everton fans, Doug Johnson has got on the blower to Latchford and Lineker - they're going to try and make the second half. Nathan from Perth wants Fernandes on for Neville to add a little spark going forward and let's spare a thought for Tony in Peru, who is apoplectic as he can't see the game as Lima's finest establishments are only showing Chelsea. Have a beer on us you lucky bugger as you soak up the sun. As for Anne in Hawaii, she's hoping Liverpool are worn out by the end as she's a Gunner.

Sanju from Mauritius feels the game should have been put to bed by the break. He wants Liverpool to wrap it up early so they can concentrate on Wednesday's monumental clash against the Gunners. Peter Merrall, one of our first Everton fans of the day, is reaching for the valium. 'No cutting edge on the bench - another season fades away' he laments. From Malta, Marcia is a fully-fledged member of the Torres fan-club, while Nicholas from Huyton wants to see Crouch off the bench.

45 - Half-time Liverpool 1 Everton 0. It's half-time here and one-way traffic. Liverpool are playing some enterprising stuff; Everton have been left behind in the dressing room. They've not been at their best of late and you sense confidence has hit a bit of trough. Moyes will have to be at his motivating best if Everton are to cling onto the hope of fourth spot.

44 - Kuyt fires meekly wide when played in by Torres, before Riise lets rip with a trademark missile that is deflected over the top. Everton deny Hyypia at the near post as they look to go into the break still in the contest.

43 - Yakubu fuming as he's penalised for a foul on Skrtel. The big man has little support and is clearly getting increasingly frustrated. That said, he needs to keep working the channels for his side and keep his head up.

41 - Come on Blues fans let's have your thoughts on what Moyes needs to change at the break. His options are limited on the bench, so should he change formation - push Osman into a striker role perhaps? Email alex.dunn@bskyb.com

38 - Gerrard strikes the post with a fine controlled effort from the edge of the area. It would have been an absolute screamer as the ball dropped to him from Torres' challenge on the edge of Everton's box. Another let-off for Everton, who in truth, are lucky to still be in it as half-time approaches.

37 - Everton want a penalty as the ball flicks up against Hyypia. Nothing in it and even die-hard Evertonians would accept the ref's decision.

35 - Liverpool fans in good voice as I'm receiving a sackload of emails. Ben Kent is hoping for a Torres hat-trick, Stephen is ruing the fact the Spaniard was benched earlier in the season and Lu Ling - from Duru - is a die-hard Red craving another Liverpool goal.

33 - Rare sustained possession from Everton comes to nothing as Hyypia thumps clear. Gerrard gets the Kop off their feet with a rattling tackle on Jagielka that leaves the Everton man a little shaken - Moyes will hope like Bond - he's stirred into action.

31 - Magnificent defensive header from Carsley denies Lucas, who looked odds-on to convert Gerrard's arched delivery. Everton clear the resulting corner but it's all Liverpool here from Anfield.

30 - Torres wins free-kick down Liverpool's right from a ponderous Jagielka. Gerrard looks poised to deliver.

29 - Liverpool very much in control as Everton look to go too long, too soon. The home side are content to sit and soak, and then counter-attack with the likes of Gerrard, Babel and Torres in fine fettle.

26 - Hibbert needs to be sharp to clear after Lucas again found Babel in space with a crossfield pass. Moments later, Babel showed hesitancy when Riise's fine delivery begged to be put in. It needed a meaty challenge from Babel - he looked more like a vegan.

24 - Liverpool corner after Neville deflects Riise's driven cross out, sees Kuyt nod wide from no more than four yards. He should have scored, another big moment in the game to date.

22 - Lescott elects to cross when a shot was on for the England man. He'd have been better shooting, as his ball in came to nothing. At the other end, Torres has embarked on another clever run down the left but Carsley eventually cleared.

20 - Greetings from Botswana as Anees emails to sing the praises of Torres. Good to see we get all over the globe with our commentaries. Peter, a Liverpool fan, wants to enlighten us all with the observation David Moyes looks like Frank Spencer.

18 - Yakubu isolated as Everton elect to go long in seeking a foothold in the contest. Osman would do well to get a little closer to the Nigerian, as Everton have failed to keep possession at any point thus far.

17 - First yellow of the afternoon as Phil Neville is booked for a lunge on Torres on the half-way. Late but not malicious.

15 - Howard denies Kuyt with a smart stop to his left after the Dutchman was fed in by Torres, whose movement is causing all manner of problems.

14 - Jagielka denies Torres inside Everton's box after a smart one-two with Gerrard. Everton are punch-drunk at present.

11 - Excellent defensive header from Lescott is needed to repel Babel's delivish delivery from the left. Arteta needs to gather his side and start to put his foot on the ball, otherwise, it could be over by the break.

Just how good is Torres? That's 21 league goals for the Liverpool man now and he is looking every inch the buy of the season. Liverpool are looking excellent, with Gerrard at the hub of much of their best work.

8 - Everton on the rack as a Gerrard free-kick is bent a yard or so wide. The away side need to gather themselves as Liverpool hunt for a killer second. A lack of attacking options on the bench would worry me, were I Everton boss David Moyes.

Yakubu was guilty of dwelling on the ball as Everton failed to clear a corner. Alonso and Kuyt snapped in and as the ball fell to Torres, his finish was as ever, inch perfect.

6 - GOAL for Liverpool!! Torres has done it again!!!

5 - Kiss of death for Bable as his shanked cross gets easily cut out at near post. The wide man was in acres from Lucas' clever lofted pass. Torres was less than amused in the centre.

3 - First test for Hibbert against the spring-heeled Babel sees the Everton man just about come on top. Should be an interesting contest down Liverpool's left. I've been quietly impressed by Babel this season, any Liverpool perspectives? Remember, it's alex.dunn@bskyb.com.

1 - Lovely strike by Arteta forces Reina to drop smartly to smother. The Everton schemer's daisy-cutter was well struck but Reina, who endured a nightmare last week at Old Trafford, was equal to it.

1 - Bright start for Reds as Gerrard and Torres link-up for the first time this afternoon. The move came to nothing but a sparky start from the Spaniard.

Liverpool get underway the 207th Merseyside derby at Anfield. The atmosphere is white-hot, let's hope the football lives up to its billing.

Minter predicts Reds win Tom Minter is another confident Reds fan, he's also going for a 2-0 Liverpool win. Not content with predicting the score, he's gazed into his crystal ball and seen a red card for Tony Hibbert. Will Minter be proved correct or is he more bogus than the love child of Russell Grant and Mystic Meg?

Early thoughts The absence of Javier Mascherano has seen the suspended Argentine replaced by a fellow South American in the form of Lucas. Is the Brazilian experienced enough to handle a unique derby day atmosphere? Adnaan Emandien is clearly not concerned as he's predicting 2-0 Liverpool - with Gerrard and Torres doing the damage. Surely there must be some rankled Evertonians out there in a confident mood. Let's have your pre-match predictions on alex.dunn@bskyb.com.

Everton team Howard, Hibbert, Yobo, Jagielka, Lescott, Arteta, Neville, Carsley, Pienaar, Osman, Yakubu. Subs: Wessels, Baines, Gravesen, Nuno Valente, Fernandes.

Liverpool team Reina, Carragher, Hyypia, Skrtel, Riise, Lucas, Gerrard, Alonso, Babel, Torres, Kuyt. Subs: Itandje, Finnan, Benayoun, Crouch, Pennant

Welcome to skysports.com's live match from commentary from Anfield as Liverpool host Everton in the most anticipated Merseyside derby for many a year. The tension is palpable as Scousers across the land try to calm down pre-match, but in the knowledge they'll be coiled springs from 4 o'clock. You can get in touch throughout the game on alex.dunn@bskyb.com to let me know your views. Would a Liverpool win all but book fourth spot for Rafa Benitez's men? Are Everton good enough to end a less than glorious record on their neighbour's patch? And who will hold the key to success - Torres and Gerrard or Big Yak and Arteta? Feel free to let me know your thoughts throughout the afternoon.
