74 - Desperation It's starting to kick in for Portugal and this time it's Meireles who blazes high over the bar.
72 - Double change Borowski replaces Hitzlsperger for the Germans while Portugal bring on Postiga for Pepe.
Your views: Chuk from Michigan, US: "I hope ronaldo wins world player of the year if portugal loses, he is indeed the best player i have ever seen. Thanks for the update as i cant watch it from here." Shane Lewis Brown: "I predicted 3-1 but the way the game is going i think it could be more then that. If Pepe cant score from 3-5 yards out what chance they got?Germany has a height advantage and have used it well. Both sides could have four or five each. The big difference is Germany has taken their chances. It pains me to say it but they know how to win a tournament. They have been more clinical in front of goal."
70 - Fierce shot Petit drills a low shot from 25 yards out but it's too near Lehmann.
69 - Ole! Good possession by Germany draws shouts of Ole from the German crowd. Lahm can't finish the move off though and slices his shot wide.

61 - GOAL!!! Just when they seemed to be under pressure, Portugal shoot themselves in the foot as poor defending from a free-kick allows Ballack to head Germany 3-1 in front. The decisive goal?
Your views: Carl from Canada: "Ronaldo will make it 2-2 soon, and we will be seeing extra time and penalties later on."

Wait until the diving starts! It's gonna get chippy".Kyle from the United Arab Emirates: "Great to see the Germans finding some form. Dave, i think this is going to go into extra time. Backing Germany though...lets hold thumbs. They need to continue to attack!" Samuel from Ghana: "Portugal will rise and overcome the Germans in the second half."

47 - Stamp of disapproval Ronaldo is tripped by Friedrich and is then incensed as the full-back stands on his ankle as he goes down. Friedrich is booked for the foul but not for the 'afters'. Naughty.
46 - Early strike Portugal are straight into their stride and Meireles hits a shot wide of the German post.
Second half: The action resumes. Can Portugal turn this game on its head? Boss Scolari returned to his seat three minutes before the players re-emerged, as if to say "it's up to you now".

34 - Get up Ronaldo crosses for Nuno Gomes in the box but he goes over far too easily. No penalty says the ref and rightly so.
33 - Dribble Bosingwa runs at the German defence but tries to take on too many men and runs the ball out for a German goalkick.
32 - Flick Ronaldo's clever flick to Simao causes panic in the German defence. He gets the return ball and crosses but can't pick out a teammate.

I'm predicting 2-1. But not sure which side!! Germany 2-Port 1. Think Germany will improve today on their past performance." It's certainly tight so far Anne. Thankyou very much.
15 - Angles Simao gets clear down the right and shoots but Lehmann has his angles worked out and makes a sharp stop at his near post.

Big guns The quarter-final action at Euro 2008 kicks off with a battle between two of the sides fancied to go all the way. Most fans with wallcharts had scribbled this in as a likely semi-final but Germany's failure to win Group B means their meeting has been brought forward. Both teams won two and lost one of their three group games with a goal difference of +2 so there is nothing to split them. Portugal look the stronger all-round team on the evidence we've seen so far but as the old saying goes "never write off the Germans".
