City lose 1-0 and now must travel to Denmark in two weeks and put in a far better performance to go through. Mike Turner said just before full-time: "If City throw this away the season looks even worse than it did last week. We are in major trouble, doubt we can attract the best players without European football, as we look dodgy if reports on finances are true. The bluff bid for Cruz fooled no one!" 76 Johnson wins a free-kick on the edge of the box after drawing Reid into the tackle. Petrov takes and hits the bar. So unlucky. Dunne pumps the ball back in but the ref blows for an infringement.
75 City work the ball well, with Fernandes finding Johnson 25 yards out in front of goal. the midfielder lets one go but it is at a good height for Heinze who saves well.
73 Etuhu's cross from the right is headed away by Califf. Soon afterwards, Etuhu puts in another cross, which Reid clears.

68 Etuhu is on for Elano before Midtjylland take the free-kick. The visitors take the kick 35 yards out but the ref blows against Califf in the box and City have the ball.

Mike Singleton says: "City will come back in the second half and win it 3-1, not the best start to the game and a bit of a shock from a team that should not be scoring against the Blues, City are obviously missing the strike power up front. COME ON CITY!!!

City go in one down. They started slowly but came back into the game and were unlucky not to equalise through Sturridge. They need to do much better after the break.

Teams - Manchester City manager Mark Hughes has recalled Vedran Corluka and Martin Petrov to his starting line-up.
Corluka looked set to join Tottenham only for Hughes to block the move while Petrov missed the victory against AC Milan at the weekend because of a knock.
Tal Ben-Haim has also been included against the Danish league leaders following his summer move from Chelsea.
Short of options up front with Jo, Benjani Mwaruwari and Darius Vassell all absent, Hughes has paired Daniel Sturridge with Felipe Caicedo in attack.
