90 It's all over and Tottenham have one foot in the Carling Cup final after storming to a convincing 4-1 victory over Burnley in this semi-final first leg at White Hart Lane. Harry Redknapp's men were trailing 1-0 at the break after a Martin Paterson goal but they blew their opponents away in the second half with a ruthless display and it's hard to see the Championship side coming back from this deficit in the second leg at Turf Moor.
90 Akinbiyi hasn't given up hope and manages to win a corner for his side. However the delivery into the box poses no problems for the Spurs defence.
90 Spurs are simply playing down the clock and as far as they're concerned it's virtually job done.
90 There will be four minutes of stoppage time at the end of this Carling Cup semi-final first leg.
89 Jordon gets down the left but his cross sails into the grateful arms of Gomes.
88 Burnley haven't created a chance for a long time but if they want to keep their dream of reaching Wembley alive, they'll need to do something quick.
87 Campbell dribbles his way inside the area but his floated cross towards Pavlyuchenko is cleared to safety.
86 Burnley make their final change of the night with Ade Akinbiyi coming on to replace Paterson.
84 Jensen finds himself in no man's land when failing to dispossess Campbell inside the area but when the striker lays the ball back for Zokora, the resulting shot ends up in Row Z even though there was a whole goal to aim at.
83 Duff's night gets even worse when he's shown the yellow card for a needlessly late challenge on Pavlyuchenko.
82 Tottenham are hogging possession and seem more than content to play keep ball in their own half and conserve their energy now the damage is done.
80 Burnley are in desperate need of another goal to keep their hopes alive but the Premier League outfit are just toying with them right now.
78 Spurs keep pushing forward and another goal now would finish this semi-final once and for all - if it isn't already.
77 It's a shame really because you can't help but feel the second leg at Turf Moor will be something of a non-event now. This was one big scoreline Burnley were hoping to avoid.
76 Spurs are in full control of this contest and whatever Harry Redknapp said at the interval, it certainly worked.
75 Burnley launch a rare attack down the right and win a corner but McCann's delivery is poor and Spurs can clear.
74 Burnley make a change with a tired Blake leaving the field to be replaced by Jay Rodriguez.
73 The cross comes into the box but Corluka's speculative effort is well off target and Burnley survive any further damage.
72 Vedran Corluka breaks free down the right but just as he's about to enter the box, Blake fouls him and Spurs have a dangerous free kick.
71 Lennon skips past Jordan down the right but his low cross into the box is cleared.
70 Frustration is spilling over for Burnley and Stephen Jordan is now shown the yellow card for dissent.
69 The home fans are in full voice now as their counterparts from Burnley can now contemplate a long disappointing return journey to Lancashire.
68 The visitors surely have too much to do now and certainly need at least one more goal before full-time to stand any chance of reaching the final.
67 OWN GOAL - O'Hara swings the resulting cross into the box and Michael Duff heads past Jensen into his own net.
66 Tottenham are rampant at the moment they win a free kick in a promising position down the right wing.
65 GOAL PAVLYUCHENKO - Spurs striker Pavlyuchenko turns past Carlisle on the edge of the box before drilling a low shot past Jensen and into the net.
63 Paterson bursts into the area and although he initially loses the ball, the striker shows persistence to force Gomes into a save before a follow-up cross is scrambled away by Spurs.
62 Even if it stays like this, Burnley won't feel like they're out of this semi-final especially with home advantage in the second leg.
61 Campbell strikes one from distance but it sails harmlessly into the arms of Jensen.
60 Credit to the Clarets for finding their feet once more after that deflating start to the second half and we shouldn't rule them out yet.
59 Alexander takes the set-piece early and finds Blake in space and although the striker's curling effort from the edge of the box beats Gomes, it just goes wide of the post.
58 The initial cross into the box is cleared but moments later they win a free kick and will look to get bodies forward.
57 The visitors push forward and win a corner of their own on the right.
56 Tottenham have a corner down the left but Burnley are relieved to see it go out of play.
55 Burnley are clearly rattled and are short of ideas as they look to claw their way back into this clash. A long ball into the area is easily caught by Gomes.
54 Spurs continue to pile forward and a cross from the right is met by Modric, but the midfielder puts his header wide when he really should have done better.
53 Burnley now look shell shocked and nearly concede again when a free kick from Spurs causes confusion inside the box.
52 GOAL O'HARA - Tottenham have turned this game on its head as O'Hara's shot from inside the box squeezes under the body of Jensen, who may well hang his head in shame.
50 Lennon's cross finds its way to O'Hara on the left following Modric's mis-kick but the substitute fires his shot well over the bar.
49 Elliott goes for glory from long range but he slices a poor shot high into the fans behind the goal.
48 You have to think Burnley will be up against it now because an urgent Tottenham have come out all guns blazing and are looking hungry for more.
47 GOAL DAWSON - Tottenham win an early corner down the right and O'Hara's delivery finds Dawson, who plants a firm header into the top corner.
46 The hosts made once change at the break with Bentley being replaced by Jamie O'Hara.
46 Tottenham get the second half under way looking to find a way back into this Carling Cup semi-final first leg. They trail Burnley 1-0 and certainly need to improve.
Tottenham are now priced at 21/10 with Sky Bet to win tonight's clash while Burnley are 13/10 with the draw available at 7/4. Despite Spurs' failure to create many chances, I'm still confident my initial tip of 1-1 will bear fruit and it's now just 12/5. If you think Burnley won't run out of gas then a 1-0 victory can be backed at 100/30 while 2-0 is a rather generous 8/1, considering Burnley have looked more likely to add another goal. Optimistic Tottenham fans might be enticed in by the 4/1 about their team turning this game around to win 2-1. In the next goalscorer market Paterson is 12/1 to net his second of the game while Campbell is 13/2 with the anonymous Pavlyuchenko 6/1. Head now to skybet.com to place your in-running bets.
45 The referee blows his whistle and Burnley go into the break leading Tottenham 1-0 in the first leg of this Carling Cup semi-final. The home fans boo but the Clarets fully deserve their advantage having played much the better football at White Hart Lane.
45 Hard work down the right from Paterson forces Michael Dawson into conceding a corner. The ball comes into the box but Spurs clear with ease.
44 There will be two minutes of stoppage time added at the end of the first half.
43 McDonald finds space in which to shoot just outside the box but his thumping effort is blocked.
42 Eagles slips over in midfield while chasing and looks rather embarrassed, but that can't take anything away from his dazzling display in this first half.
41 This is a sterling performance from Burnley all over the pitch and you wonder if they can keep it up for the full 90 minutes.
40 Eagles chips a cross into the box from out on the right but nobody is there to meet it.
39 The visitors are moving the ball well in midfield as they look to unlock Spurs again but right now chances are hard to come by.
38 Burnley launch a free kick into the box but Woodgate is there to hack the ball clear from danger.
37 All Spurs' attacks are going through Lennon at the moment but the winger is having a poor game by his standards. This time he skips down the right only to see his cross deflected back off him before going out of play.
36 Lennon earns a corner for Tottenham after his low cross is deflected behind. Bentley's subsequent delivery is headed clear and the resulting ball into the box floats behind for a goal kick.
35 McCann is back on the pitch and seems to be running about fine, which is great news for Owen Coyle who must have been contemplating a second substitution within minutes of the first.
34 Bentley unleashes a hopeful effort from out on the left but Jensen watches it sail high and wide of the target.
33 Lennon drives down the right at high speed but not for the first time tonight his eventual cross is not up to standard.
32 The midfielder leaves the field to allow the game to continue but will he be back?
31 Now Chris McCann has gone down hurt for Burnley and he too needs some attention from the club's physio.
30 Gudjonsson requires treatment and has to be replaced by Kevin McDonald, who of course scored two goals in their win over Arsenal.
29 Bentley is being booed by the Burnley fans every time he touches the ball due to his Blackburn connections and so far he's done little to silence them.
28 Lennon darts away down the right wing at pace but his cross is awful and the ball drifts behind for a goal kick.
27 This is a good spell of pressure from Spurs who are starting to look more menacing.
26 Bentley swings the ball into the box which Woodgate heads down for Pavlyuchenko, but the striker's shot from close range is saved brilliantly by Jensen.
25 Tottenham win a corner when Carlisle deflects over a Pavlyuchenko header, although I'm not sure he knew much about it.
24 Lennon, by contrast, is being out muscled on the right and has yet to make an impact for Spurs.
23 Eagles is having a cracking game on the right and this time another curling cross is headed agonisingly wide by Blake.
22 Luka Modric slips a lovely throughball into the area for Pavlyuchenko but the Russian is too slow and Jensen comes out to make the claim.
21 Tottenham have offered very little so far tonight and if anything it's Burnley who could be viewed as the Premier League side playing at home.
20 Robbie Blake shoots from distance but it's more out of hope than expectation as the ball rolls into Gomes' arms.
19 Joey Gudjonsson cuts out Lennon's pass into the box and clears the danger for a very organised Burnley defence.
18 The Clarets come forward and it's clear they're looking more goals rather than merely sitting back to protect their lead.
17 Burnley are comfortable in possession right now and confidence is running through the veins of this team at the moment.
16 It really was a well worked goal and credit must go for Eagles for his fabulous run and precise cross. Burnley certainly deserve their lead and now they have something to build on.
15 GOAL PATERSON - Eagles does brilliantly down the right wing to weave his way into the area before cutting the ball across the face of goal for Paterson, who makes no mistake from close range.
14 At the other end Wade Elliott tries his luck from similar distance but pulls his effort wide of the post.
13 Bentley's rasping drive from around 25 yards forces Jensen into making a save, but he hardly had to dive.
12 It's fair to say Spurs are a little rattled by Burnley and probably didn't expect their opponents to come out and attack.
11 Tottenham now are enjoying a period of pressure on the right wing but Burnley stand firm and repel any ball into the box.
10 The visiting supporters are making all the noise inside White Hart Lane and they'll no doubt be encouraged by their side's bright opening.
9 Burnley are enjoying plenty of possession so far and this time they work the ball down the right for Graham Alexander, who puts his cross behind for a goal kick.
8 Aaron Lennon looks to find Roman Pavlyuchenko with a chipped cross from the right but Burnley's Clarke Carlisle heads the ball clear.
7 Fraizer Campbell wins a corner for Tottenham down the right but the delivery is punched clear by Brian Jensen.
6 Martin Paterson nearly gets in behind Jonathan Woodgate down the right side of the area but Heurelho Gomes comes out to gather the ball.
5 The Championship side are showing no fear in these early stages and are intent on going for the jugular.
4 Moments later Eagles has another opportunity to shoot just outside the area but this time he slices it badly off-target.
3 Tottenham make a bright start but it's Burnley who have the first meaningful attempt on goal with Chris Eagles drilling a long range shot just wide of the post.
2 Many expect Spurs to win tonight's game but the Clarets must ensure they don't fall too far behind ahead of the second leg at Turf Moor.
1 Burnley get the first leg of this semi-final under way at White Hart Lane looking to cause another Carling Cup shock.
If you fancy a flutter on tonight's action then head now to skybet.com, where Tottenham can be backed at 4/9 for the victory with Burnley available at a tempting 7/1 and the draw 3/1. I personally think the Clarets can get a draw tonight and therefore will tip 1-1 at 17/2 but a no goalscorer option of 12/1 has also caught my eye. Don't forget they only conceded one goal in their matches with Fulham, Chelsea and Arsenal combined. But if you're siding with Spurs then Fraizer Campbell has been in good form in this competition and is 5/4 about scoring anytime. For Burnley's Martin Paterson is priced up at 3/1 and might be worth a punt. Head now to skybet.com to place a bet on a full range of markets.
Tottenham team is: Gomes, Corluka, Dawson, Woodgate, Bale, Lennon, Modric, Zokora, Bentley, Pavlyuchenko, Campbell. Subs: Alnwick, Gunter, Giovani, Taarabt, Boateng, O'Hara, Rocha
Burnley team is: Burnley: Jensen, Alexander, Duff, Carlisle, Jordan, Gudjonsson, Eagles, Paterson, Elliott, Blake, McCann. Subs: Penny, Kalvenes, McDonald, Akinbiyi, Mahon, Rodriguez, MacDonald.
Tottenham, who have signed Jermain Defoe from Portsmouth today, are without suspended duo Benoit Assou-Ekotto and midfielder Jermaine Jenas, while captain Ledley King is rested. Therefore Jonathan Woodgate skippers the side with Aaron Lennon starting on the wing. Burnley will be led by striker Robbie Blake and having conceded just one goal in the competition so far they'll be looking to goalkeeper Brian Jensen to be a hero once again. Tonight's referee is Martin Atkinson.
Welcome to tonight's live commentary from White Hart Lane where Tottenham host Burnley in the first leg of this Carling Cup semi-final. The holders will be hoping to take a lead up to Turf Moor in two weeks time but Owen Coyle's Championship outfit have already knocked out Fulham, Chelsea and Arsenal in this season's competition so can't be underestimated. Send me all your pre-match thoughts and predictions to christopherhammer@bskyb.com and I'll try to publish as many as possible. The kick-off is at 2000 GMT.
