FT: Blyth Spartans 0 Blackburn 1

Full Time90 The final whistle sounds and Blackburn have sneaked into the FA Cup fourth round after a moment of magic from Carlos Villanueva gave them a hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Blyth Spartans at Croft Park. The non-league side put up a brave effort tonight and so nearly earned a replay late on when Andrew Wright drilled his shot wide but it was not to be and Sam Allardyce's Rovers will now go on to face Sunderland next.

90 Dale attempts an audacious hooked shot from inside the box and although it loops over the defenders, Bunn makes a safe catch.

89 There will be three minutes of stoppage time to play at the end of this clash.

88 Blyth are throwing everyone forward now but can they carve out another golden opportunity to level the scores?

87 Williams curls the ball into the box but Gildea puts a free header wide of the post! Another wasted chance. They waited so long for two openings like these but they've failed to make them count.

86 Blyth now have a free kick on the right wing - they can't afford to miss another chance like that if they can create one here.

85 Wright blows his opportunity to be a hero as he somehow volleys a glaring shot wide of the post from close range.

Substitution84 Blackburn make their final change of the night with Bryan Hodge coming on to replace Derbyshire.

83 The ball breaks from Reay just outside the box but his vicious volley is blocked by Khizanishvili. That would have surely tested Bunn in the Blackburn goal.

82 Blackburn have a corner which is aimed towards Zurab Khizanishvili but the Rovers captain heads over the bar.

81 Time is running out for Blyth if they want to stay in the FA Cup but right now Blackburn are keeping them at arm's length.

80 Roberts twists and turns on the right side of the box before blasting a fierce shot which rises over and also wide of the mark.

79 Williams' initial ball into the box is cleared, but only as far as Gildea, who smashes a shot high over the bar.

78 The hosts have a free kick in midfield which Williams will take once more.

77 The delivery from Williams is tempting but Blackburn get the ball clear as the clock ticks down.

76 Blyth storm forward but Mokoena manages to hack the ball behind for a corner. The crowd make more noise but can they suck the ball into the net?

75 Judge races into space down the right side of the box as Rovers look to kill off this third-round clash but his low cut-back is fired over by Andrews from close range.

74 Todd lofts the resulting cross into the box but Rovers head clear with ease.

Yellow Card73 Dale is brought to ground on the left wing by a crunching tackle from Mokoena and he's shown the yellow card.

71 Williams is ambitious with a driven effort but Bunn is able to make his first meaningful save of the match.

Substitution70 Blyth's Dalton leaves the field to be replaced by Andrew Wright.

70 Blyth take their time - they have to get this one right.

69 Here come Blyth through midfield with Reay, who is brought down and is awarded a free kick.

68 It hasn't been an easy night for Rovers but they look comfortable now and it's hard to see them losing their lead.

67 Roberts tries to find space in which to shoot on the edge of the box but he hesitates and the chance is lost.

66 The ball is played into the box but Derbyshire heads it away and Rovers survive.

65 The non-league side must throw bodies forward now and they have a free kick on the right wing after Dalton is brought down by Andrews.

Substitution64 Blyth now make a change with White leaving the field to be replaced by Simon Todd.

63 The delivery is curled into the box but Bell leaps highest to make the claim.

62 Treacy's powerful effort takes a deflection before hitting the top of the bar and going behind for a corner.

61 Rovers should have few problems reaching round four now because Blyth just don't look like troubling goalkeeper Bunn.

Substitution60 Blackburn quickly make a double change with Villanueva making way for Jason Roberts and Grella being replaced by Keith Andrews.

Goal59 GOAL VILLANUEVA - Villanueva takes his time before curling a fabulous shot over the wall and into the top corner of the net.

57 Villanueva weaves his way past several defenders before being brought down by Alex Gildea just outside the box and Blackburn now have a free kick.

56 Panic sets in for Blackburn as the hosts pile on the pressure inside the box. Although no chances come of it, Rovers are clearly rattled.

55 Blyth work the ball down the right wing with Dale but the forward is unable to cross into the box.

54 Dalton is brought to ground by Simpson and Blyth have a free kick in a promising position in midfield.

53 Blackburn win a corner down the right but the delivery into the box is cleared away by Dale.

52 Sam Allardyce might start to wish he'd started with some of his first-team players if Rovers don't score a goal soon. Even a draw would be embarrassing for his side.

51 Villanueva goes for glory from range but his curling effort from outside the box just bends wide of the post.

50 Rovers keep plugging away but it's becoming increasingly difficult with the number of bodies Blyth have in defence.

49 Derbyshire isn't having his best of games and this time his poor control sees the ball roll behind for a goal kick.

48 Rovers fans must be getting a little twitchy now. They won't want their club becoming the first from the Premier League to be knocked out of the FA Cup by non-league opposition.

47 Williams slides in to cut out a searching throughball into the box and Blyth continue to look solid at the back.

46 Blyth get the second half under way and will look to frustrate Blackburn even further at Croft Park as they bid for a famous FA Cup shock.

Sky Bet On the back of that impressive defensive performance, Blyth's odds to win this clash have been cut to 8/1 with Sky Bet while a Blackburn victory is now 4/9 with a draw available at 23/10. My initial tip of 2-0 in Rovers' favour is now 7/2 but the 1-0 has been shaved right down to 5/2 and the 0-0 is just 7/2. I can't see Blyth scoring but an unlikely 1-0 win for them is 10/1 and a goal anytime from Ged Dalton can be backed at 13/2, which is the same price for Robert Dale and Shaun Reay. For Blackburn, Treacy has been the standout player in attack so it's a surprise to see him at 6/1 to score anytime. Head now to skybet.com to place your bets.

Half Time45 After just one minute of stoppage time, the referee blows his whistle to spark a loud cheer at Croft Park as Blyth Spartans go into the break level with Blackburn at 0-0 in this FA Cup third-round clash.

44 Treacy raids forward once again down the left but his chipped cross into the box is bravely claimed by Bell.

43 Blyth are edging ever closer to the break and it would surely be a moral victory of sorts if they can hold on for the 0-0.

42 The hosts look to cause problems with a long throw down the left but it's easy pickings for Blackburn who clear their lines.

41 Blyth mount a rare attack but they're unable to create a chance.

40 White is having a great game and this time he does enough to put off Treacy, who blazes a shot high over the bar.

39 Treacy goes down inside the box but the strong challenge from White was excellent and quite rightly no penalty is given.

38 Treacy whips in a dangerous cross which causes confusion before falling for Grella, who drills a powerful shot at the face of Richard Pell, who stands on the goal line! Great block!

37 Simpson's cross from the right comes off Dale and goes behind for a corner. Will this be the moment for Blackburn to finally break the deadlock?

36 Vince Grella chips a lovely pass into the box but Derbyshire's volley is weak and the ball trickles through to a grateful Bell.

35 Treacy's shot from outside the box takes a deflection and falls for Derbyshire, who sees his overhead kick get diverted into the net off a Blyth defender. The Rovers fans cheer but are quickly silenced by the linesman's offside flag against Derbyshire.

34 The ball is curled into the box but Blyth striker Robert Dale is there to head it to safety.

33 Judge bursts down the right wing at pace but White makes the tackle to concede a corner.

32 Williams drives the ball into the box but Mokoena is the man to clear the danger.

31 Blyth have a free kick just inside their own half but once again they'll try to use it as an attacking opportunity.

30 Judge launches a long ball into the area but an authoritative Bell comes to collect.

29 Treacy requires a little treatment but he'll be OK to continue in this contest.

28 Treacy heads the ball clear for Blackburn but he stays down hurt after being caught late by Andrew Leeson.

27 Williams punts the ball into the box and although Martin Olsson misses his clearance, Aaron Mokoena is there to put it behind for a corner.

26 Blyth win another free kick on the right of midfield and they'll look to get bodies forward.

25 Confusion at the back presents Ged Dalton with an opportunity outside the box but his attempt to lob the stranded Bunn is sliced out for a goal kick.

24 Blackburn's defenders are getting an easy ride when they'll on the ball with Blyth content to sit deep and play a game of containment.

23 Rovers put pressure on the hosts down the right wing but a strong challenge from White thwarts Judge.

22 The Premier League side's attempts to score an early goal have failed and you just wonder if they'll start to panic if the game remains goalless for much longer.

21 It appears as if Blyth's best chance of causing Rovers some problems will be with set pieces although Big Sam will be furious if his side gets caught cold like that.

20 Blyth have a free kick in their own half but even so Gareth Williams will attempt to boot the ball forward into the box. The delivery is hit long but Rovers are able to clear.

19 Harry Dunn looks on from the sidelines and must be proud of his players' efforts so far tonight. But do they have a goal threat of their own?

18 Alan Judge scuttles forward through midfield before drilling his shot from distance wide of the post.

16 The ball is curled in towards the near post but Blyth head it clear before winning a free kick on the edge of their box.

15 Blyth have done well to keep Rovers at bay so far but are under pressure again when Simpson wins a corner down the right.

14 Treacy probes down the left side of the box before firing in a cross-cum-shot which goes straight into Bell's arms.

13 Villanueva finds himself in space down the left but poor control on the ball lets him down and Blyth get back in numbers.

12 It's one way traffic at the moment and seems to be a matter of 'when' Blackburn will score rather than 'if'.

11 Rovers continue to turn the screw and only a fine one-handed save from Bell prevents Treacy finding the net with a scorching drive.

10 Villanueva breaks down the right wing before cutting a low cross into the area for Matt Derbyshire, who is denied by a last-ditch tackle by Kenny Boyle.

9 Blackburn are cool and composed on the ball and it's hard to see them find any trouble tonight.

8 Villanueva blasts one from a tight angle on the right but Mark Bell is relieved to see the ball flash past the far post.

7 The hosts are battling hard but you just sense even at this early stage that Blackburn are far too quick on the ball.

6 White slips on the ball while in possession in midfield and Carlos Villanueva capitalises and attempts an audacious shot from near the halfway line only to see it sail over the bar.

5 Keith Treacy goes for goal with a shot from outside the box but he screws it well wide of the post. Hardly Premier League class.

4 The tackles are flying in firm but fair in these early exchanges although Danny Simpson then gets caught late to earn a free kick for Rovers in their own half.

3 Blyth debutant Alex White lands a crunching tackle in midfield to spark roars from the supporters, who are tightly packed into this ground.

2 Rovers goalkeeper Mark Bunn gets an early touch as Blyth try and make a positive start tonight. The home fans are well up for this encounter and want a strong showing from their side.

1 Blackburn get this FA Cup third round clash under way at a chilly Croft Park with Blyth hoping to be the first non-league side ever to knock a Premier League club out of the competition.

Isaac from Nottingham has quickly got in touch before kick-off to say: "Really looking forward to tonight's game, although I would like to see Blyth cause an upset, I can't see it happening, Blackburn should have too much strength and will overpower them, although it will be close."

Sky Bet As far as the betting goes at skybet.com, Blyth Spartans are unsurprisingly the big outsiders and can be backed at 14/1 to win tonight while Blackburn are 2/11 with the draw available at 11/2. I do feel the conditions at Croft Park will make life difficult for a Rovers side who aren't exactly flowing with confidence at the moment and would therefore tip a narrow 2-0 scoreline at 5/1 rather than a 6-0 trouncing at 25/1. In the anytime goalscorer market, the smart money will be on Matt Derbyshire at 10/11 but if you really think Blyth will find the net tonight then who better than Ged Dalton at 9/2. So head now to skybet.com because it matters more when there's money on it.

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce has rested the 11 players who started against Manchester City in their last game as a side captained by Zurab Khizanishvili looks to avoid an embarrassing third-round exit. Matt Derbyshire will lead the line while Vince Grella makes his fifth appearance for the club since his £4million summer move from Torino on his return from a calf injury. Blyth manager Harry Dunn hands a debut to full-back Alex White while striker Ged Dalton - who scored the winner against Bournemouth in the last round as a substitute - is their man to match. The referee tonight is Andre Marriner.

Blyth Spartans team is: Mark Bell, Boyle, Pell, Leeson, White, Reay, McCabe, Williams, Gildea, Dale, Dalton. Subs: Farman, Brown, Hume, Poole, Todd, Wright, Watson.

Blackburn team is: Bunn, Simpson, Mokoena, Khizanishvili, Olsson, Vogel, Grella, Treacy, Judge, Villanueva, Derbyshire. Subs: Brown, Andrews, Roberts, Hodge, Gunning, Doran, Haworth.

Welcome to tonight's FA Cup third-round commentary from Croft Park, where Blue Square North side Blyth Spartans are aiming to cause one of the biggest shocks in the competition's history as they host Blackburn of the Premier League. Could the magic of the FA Cup strike here tonight or will Sam Allardyce's Rovers simply be too strong for the minnows? Let me know your thoughts and predictions by emailing christopher.hammer@bskyb.com ahead of the kick-off, which is at 2000 GMT.
