Johnson: Aiming for fourth spot

Bristol City will be hoping to secure fourth spot when they play host to Preston at Ashton Gate.

Preston defender Sean St Ledger could make a welcome return to action in the final-day trip to Bristol.

The highly-rated centre-back has made a swift recovery from the hamstring strain which forced him to miss last weekend's 2-2 home draw with Ipswich.

Irvine has confirmed he expects to have St Ledger available and could therefore have a selection dilemma on his hands.

Neal Trotman - a £500,000 arrival from Oldham in January - made his debut against the Tractor Boys last weekend but could be replaced by St Ledger.

With Billy Jones ruled out of the final game, Michael Hart will continue at right-back.

Striker Chris Brown is also fully fit to take his place in the side but Liam Chilvers, Kevin Nicholls and Wayne Henderson remain sidelined.

City team news

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has no fresh injury concerns as his side look for the victory which will confirm a second-leg home-tie in the play-off semi-finals.

Striker Steve Brooker will undergo a late fitness test on a hamstring strain as he aims to be fit in time for the clash at Ashton Gate.

Midfielder Lee Johnson remains sidelined with a heel injury which could also rule him out of the play-offs.

Nick Carle is expected to continue in place of Johnson after impressing on his return to the starting XI in the defeat against Sheffield United.

Striker Lee Trundle is set to continue up front alongside Dele Adebola, with Johnson likely to name an unchanged side.
