Scunthorpe v Colchester preview

Relegated duo meet on final day

Last updated: 2nd May 2008

Teddy Sheringham's farewell has been and gone as relegated duo Scunthorpe United and Colchester United meet at Glanford Park.

Scunthorpe will be without several players for the game as Nigel Adkins looks to bow out of the Championship on a winning note.

Kevan Hurst is out with a hamstring injury, while Andy Crosby and Martin Paterson have undergone knee and hernia operations respectively.

Jim Goodwin is struggling to shake off a hamstring complaint and Curtis Weston is also doubtful for the Iron due to an ankle injury.

Colchester news

Veteran forward Sheringham's 30-minute cameo against Stoke City last week appears to have been his swansong from professional football.

The outing was Sheringham's first since February due to a toe injury, and that problem has forced him out of Colchester's squad for Sunday's game.

It means the 41-year-old's distinguished career has ended on a rather low-key note as the former England international is retiring at the end of the season.

Geraint Williams will aim to finish the campaign with three points and can welcome back on-loan defender Matt Heath.

However, Adam Virgo misses out after failing to recover from the knock he suffered in the first half of last week's defeat to Stoke.
