Rooney: Unlikely to be risked
Manchester United's mission this weekend is simple: win at Wigan and secure the Premier League title.
The Red Devils remain in pole position to claim their 10th Premier League crown given their superior goal difference over Chelsea.
But United's 2-1 defeat at the hands of their title rivals two weeks ago brought the two sides level on points and means that there is now no margin for error.
To say that Sir Alex Ferguson's side have a decent record against the Latics would be something of an understatement.
In the six meetings between the two clubs in all competitions over the past three seasons, United have won every single one, scoring 20 goals and conceding just three.
But with Old Trafford legend Steve Bruce at the helm, the Latics have become tougher opponents to break down, while their infamous JJB Stadium surface will do little to aid United's slick passing game.
Wayne Rooney is unlikely to be risked against Wigan with Ferguson eager to have him fit for the UEFA Champions League final against Chelsea in Moscow on 21st May.
The England international aggravated a hip injury in the defeat at Stamford Bridge and has not featured for the club since.
Nemanja Vidic is hoping to prove his fitness to Ferguson to bolster the league leaders' backline for the domestic finale.
The powerful Serbian international centre-back has not played since suffering concussion and a nasty cut when he was caught by Didier Drogba on 26th April but is expected to be back in the starting XI.
Nani is suspended for the final game of the season following his needless red card in last weekend's 4-1 win over West Ham.
If Ryan Giggs starts for United then he will equal Sir Bobby Charlton's all-time United appearance record of 759, with the Welsh winger on course to set a new mark in the Champions League final.
Wigan winger Kevin Kilbane will not tackle the Red Devils after playing through the pain barrier with a back problem for a number of weeks.
With the Latics' top-flight status secured for another season, Bruce has decided that it is time to rest the Republic of Ireland international.
Mario Melchiot and Erik Edman remain sidelined through injury as Wigan look to extend their unbeaten run to six games.
