Wycombe will be without veteran Gareth Ainsworth when they host Southampton, who could be missing Morgan Schneiderlin.

Midfielder Ainsworth made his second debut for the Chairboys as a second-half substitute in the 1-0 win over Millwall on Saturday, but lasted just six minutes before he was sent-off.

Ainsworth starts a three-game ban after allegedly elbowing Lions defender Tony Craig, however, manager Gary Waddock has defended the former QPR man.

Waddock said: "Gareth is an honest player. He is aggressive, but he's not the type of player to throw elbows.

"He said he hasn't done anything and I take his word for that."

Waddock remains without defender Leon Johnson (knee), Adam Hinshelwood (knee), Ian Westlake (ankle) and Matt Bloomfield (knee).

Saints team news

Southampton boss Alan Pardew may have to make do without Schneiderlin for the trip to Adams Park.

The midfielder picked up a knock in the 2-0 victory over Norwich on Saturday and is rated as doubtful.

Defender Dan Seaborne is out as he is undergoing scans to find the extent of a knee injury that has kept him out of Saints' past three matches.

The game comes a week too soon for striker David Connolly who will once again miss out with the groin injury which has sidelined him since December, but he could be back for the weekend game against Walsall.

Defender Graeme Murty remains sidelined and is unlikely to feature again this season following ankle surgery last week.
