Southampton will aim to build on their midweek show as they travel to Prenton Park to take on relegation-threatened Tranmere.

The Saints battered play-off hopefuls Huddersfield 5-0 on Tuesday which will leave Rovers boss Les Parry with plenty to think about ahead of the game.

Parry will be without midfielder Ash Taylor and striker Kithson Bain for the home clash.

The pair are nursing injuries and will play no part, but on-loan Manchester City defender Shaleum Logan is available again after completing a two-match ban.

He will battle it out with on-loan Leicester youngster Luke O'Neill for the right-back spot.

Striker Terry Gornell looks set to be missing due to mumps so long-term absentee Bas Savage should earn a place on the bench following his return to fitness.

Parry admitted: "We'll be looking to unleash Bas on Southampton at some point."

Meanwhile, Watford striker Marvin Sordell gave Rovers a boost this weekend when he extended his loan spell by a further month.

David Connolly will not be risked by Saints boss Alan Pardew for the trip to Prenton Park.

The experienced striker has resumed full training after being sidelined since the turn of the year with a groin injury, but with Saints having cracked in 10 goals in their last two games boss Alan Pardew has no need to rush him back.

Pardew will have to do without winger Lee Holmes, who will be missing for around a fortnight with a groin problem.

Midfielder Lloyd James will also sit out as he is due to have an injection in the ankle problem which has kept him out for a month.

Veteran full-back Graeme Murty is unlikely to figure again this season due to ankle ligament damage.
