Dundee United's Francisco Sandaza could make his long-awaited comeback from injury in Sunday's game against Hearts.

The Spanish striker, who was United's top scorer last season following his move from Valencia B, has not played all season after having a double hernia operation in the summer.

But the 25-year-old returned to full training this week and is likely to be handed a place on the bench.

Defender Andy Webster is fit after coming off at half-time during Scotland's 1-0 victory over the Czech Republic on Wednesday but striker Danny Cadamarteri misses out.

United have also been boosted by new Scotland call-up Paul Dixon signing a new two-year deal this week as they aim to put some pressure on second-placed Celtic, who they trail by six points.

Reinvigorated

Despite having a host of injuries, Hearts have been reinvigorated by the return of manager Jim Jefferies and set their sights on challenging for third place after winning their last three games.

Jefferies, who will take charge of his 200th league game as Hearts boss, has been boosted by Suso Santana's return to fitness.

The Spanish winger was back in training on Thursday after recovering from a thigh problem and is in contention to feature at Tannadice.

Jefferies will continue to monitor the fitness of Dawid Kucharski (groin) after the Polish defender was forced off during last week's 1-0 win at Aberdeen.

His replacement, Laryea Kingston, was then sent off so must serve a one-match ban, while Ian Black, Jose Goncalves, Andrew Driver, Ruben Palazuelos, Scott Robinson, Craig Thomson, Johnny Stewart (all knee) and Jamie MacDonald (ankle) remain sidelined for the Jambos.
