Sheffield Wednesday will hope to continue their resurgence under Alan Irvine against bottom club Peterborough.

The Owls have won both their games since Irvine was appointed manager to climb out of the relegation zone.

Posh have struggled all season and will be desperate to pick up three points to boost their chances of beating the drop.

Sheff Wed news

Luke Varney will go straight back into Sheffield Wednesday's squad after returning on loan from Derby until the end of the season.

The striker, who spent the first half of the season on loan with the Owls, may have to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench.

Irvine will be without winger Jermaine Johnson, who was forced out of the action at Blackpool in midweek with a strained hamstring and replaced by Leon Clarke.

Clarke is expected to retain his place alongside Marcus Tudgay up front, while on-loan midfielder Tom Soares will play his last game before returning to Crystal Palace.

Peterborough news

Peterborough boss Mark Cooper will have a makeshift defence for the journey to Hillsborough.

Cooper saw centre-halves Ryan Bennett and Craig Morgan sent off in last weekend's demoralising 3-0 home defeat to Derby so the pair will be suspended.

Midfielder Charlie Lee is expected to be asked to fill in alongside former Kettering man Exodus Geohaghon as another regular, Gabriel Zakuani, remains out with a groin injury.

Kerrea Gilbert, Reuben Reid, Jake Livermore and Izale McLeod all made their debuts against Derby and should keep their places as Cooper desperately searches for a first away win of the season.

Midfielder Toumani Diagouraga has joined Brentford on loan, while striker Aaron McLean will continue to be available for selection despite being placed on the transfer list earlier this month.
