David Connolly and Dan Seaborne are close to returning to the Southampton squad for the home game against Huddersfield.

Striker Connolly was due to resume training this week having been sidelined since December with a groin problem.

Defender Seaborne has a knee injury which it was feared would require surgery, but a scan has shown the problem is not serious and he could be involved against the Terriers.

Boss Alan Pardew is unlikely to make changes, however, after watching his side rack up their biggest win of the season in Saturday's 5-1 success against Walsall.

Midfielder Lloyd James will be out for at least another couple of weeks to rest an ankle injury and veteran full-back Graeme Murty is a long-term absentee following surgery on his ankle.

Huddersfield defender Lee Peltier is a major doubt for the St Mary's Stadium clash.

Peltier, a summer signing from Yeovil, was stretchered off on Saturday after sustaining an ankle injury in the 2-2 home draw with Leeds and although he will travel with the squad after an X-ray on Sunday revealed no serious damage, he is unlikely to start. Tom Clarke is on stand-by.

Midfielder Antony Kay suffered a calf injury during the West Yorkshire derby but is also in the squad and expected to prove his fitness.

Otherwise, manager Lee Clark has no new injury or suspension problems as his side look to extend their unbeaten league run to 12 matches and close the gap on the top two to six points.
