Sheffield Wednesday defender Richard Hinds returns to contention for the Johnstone's Paint Trophy clash with Notts County.

Hinds missed Saturday's 5-0 win at Hartlepool due to a one-game ban after being sent off in the recent Carling Cup defeat at Scunthorpe.

Owls manager Alan Irvine is expected to name Hinds on the substitutes' bench at Hillsborough on Tuesday night as skipper Darren Purse returned to the starting line-up at Hartlepool and helped keep a clean sheet.

Irvine, who has no new injury or suspension worries, could hand starts to midfielder Tommy Miller and striker Clinton Morrison, who both need more game time after their respective injuries.

However, winger Jermaine Johnson is still nursing his way back to fitness after damaging knee ligaments.

County news

Goalkeeper Rob Burch could return to the Notts County squad for the trip to Hillsborough in the first round.

The summer signing from Lincoln has not played since the opening day of the season due to a toe problem.

Manager Craig Short must decide whether Burch goes straight back into the team or starts the first round tie on the substitutes' bench.

Defender Stephen Hunt and midfielder Neal Bishop are nursing knocks and may miss out.

Short may decide to start with Kevin Smith following the striker's two goals in his last two games, while Luke Hubbins and Jake Jervis could also start at Hillsborough.

Lee Hughes could come back into contention for the league visit of Yeovil at the weekend after missing the last four matches with a groin problem.
