Eastwood: Debut winner
Freddy Eastwood enjoyed a dream debut for Wales by scoring the only goal against Bulgaria.
Wolves' new signing produced a crisp finish at the end of the first half, although goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was the star of Wales' 1-0 win in Bourgas.
Hennessey, also a club colleague of Eastwood, produced a string of fine saves to earn John Toshack's side an uplifting win ahead of next month's Euro 2008 qualifiers with Germany and Slovakia.
Manchester City new boy Martin Petrov was the pick of the Bulgarian players in the first half and he forced Hennessey into a sprawling save from a free-kick on 13 minutes.
Wales went straight up the other end to come close to the opener when Simon Davies' cross was helped on by Gareth Bale and Dimitar Ivankov made a smart stop.
Hristo Iovov wasted a good opportunity for Bulgaria when firing over after finding space in the box before Hennessey made an excellent reaction save from Petrov.
The winger was then just off target from the edge of the area before Wales took the lead in first-half injury-time.
Eastwood cut in from the right-hand side at pace and clipped his shot inside the post from 20 yards.
Bulgaria offered more pressure in the second half, with substitute Velizar Dimitrov the main source of chances for the home team.
Just two minutes into the second period, Dimitrov's fierce shot deflected off Danny Gabbidon, forcing Hennessey into an excellent tip over.
Petrov was narrowly off target again before Hennessey stuck out a hand to thwart Dimitrov as the Bulgarian broke through.
On 77 minutes, Bulgaria were almost gifted an equaliser when captain Gabbidon slashed an attempted clearance against his own post.
Hennessey saved again from Petrov and Dimitrov was just wide in the final minute as Wales hung on for a battling victory.
