Kamara: First Fulham goal

A solitary second-half goal by Diomansy Kamara proved enough for Fulham to edge past Shrewsbury Town.

Fulham boss Lawrie Sanchez seemed very aware of the possibility of a Carling Cup giant-killing as he selected a near full-strength starting line-up for the trip to the New Meadow.

Their League Two hosts never made life easy for The Cottagers and the sides went in level at the interval.

However, Kamara paid back a chunk of his £6million transfer fee with his first Fulham goal as he found the net with a looping header from a right-wing corner just before the hour mark to settle the contest.

The visitors almost took the lead in the eighth minute when Kamara headed against the bar following a cross from David Healy.

Shrewsbury hit back in the 19th minute when Jimmy Ryan, on loan from Liverpool, spotted goalkeeper Tony Warner marginally off his line. He tried to chip him from just over the halfway line but his cheeky attempt went narrowly over the bar.

Fulham eventually made a second-half breakthrough when Kamara got away from his marker to head home following a corner on the right from Simon Davies.

Shrewsbury should have equalised in the 83rd minute when Kempson sent a free header wide of the post following a free-kick from Steve Leslie.

It was a glorious chance and the battling home side were made to pay the price as Fulham went through to third round.
