Dagenham were held to a draw at Victoria Road by battling Port Vale as the visitors held on to a 1-1 draw with 10 men.

Paul Benson had given the hosts an early lead after just four minutes, firing into the roof of the net from close range.

But Marc Richards levelled matters almost immediately, converting Simon Richman's seventh-minute cross.

Benson was twice denied a winner, lashing a shot against the bar in the first half, before skimming a header on to the woodwork after the break.

Vale had skipper Sam Stockley sent off towards the end and almost nicked a late winner, but Louis Dodds free kick drifted just wide.
