Petrov: On target

Martin Petrov and Darius Vassell were on target as Manchester City progressed to the second qualifying round of the Uefa Cup with a 2-0 second-leg win over EB/Streymur at Oakwell.

The first round qualifying tie finished 4-0 on aggregate after Mark Hughes' men claimed a 2-0 triumph in the first-leg in the Faroe Islands a fortnight ago.

City created chances at will in the first period but were denied on several occasions by EB/Streymur shot-stopper Rene Torgard.

Vassell, Daniel Sturridge and Elano were among those that spawned decent opportunities, while Vedran Corluka and Petrov both hit the woodwork before the break.

However, three minutes into the second period, City took the lead as Bulgarian winger Petrov tapped home at the back post from Vassell's cutback.

Hughes' side continued to dominate for the remainder of the half, and Vassell sealed a comfortable evening in injury-time, rounding the keeper to dispatch from a tight angle.
