Liverpool were left to rue their failings from the spot during a goalless draw with Hertha Berlin.

Andriy Voronin had a second-half penalty saved for the Reds, but Rafa Benitez's men maintained their unbeaten pre-season record.

Hertha came closest to breaking the deadlock during the opening period with two efforts from full-back Sofian Chahed worrying Diego Cavalieri in the visitors' goal.

Liverpool then made a number of changes at the break and looked far more threatening during the second half.

Their best chance arrived after 49 minutes after Voronin was pulled down in the box by Kaka, but the Ukrainian striker saw his resulting spot-kick saved by Christian Fiedler.

Chances remained few and far between as the game drew on, although Cicero did see a powerful header well saved by Cavalieri just after the hour-mark.
