Dynamo Kiev |
Fenerbahce earned their first point in this season's UEFA Champions League following a 0-0 draw with Dynamo Kiev in Istanbul.
The encounter was sadly lacking in goalmouth action and both sides will now have to work hard to progress from Group G to the knock-out stages.
However, Fenerbahce - who were soundly beaten by Porto in their opening match - will be happy to have opened their account.
The first half was a bland affair, with neither side truly threatening to break the deadlock at Sukru Saracoglu stadium.
It was Dynamo who started the brighter and Olexandr Aliyev should have done better when hitting the side-netting after working an opportunity for himself.
The Ukraine midfielder again threatened with an effort from range as visitors Dynamo continued to pose the greatest threat.
Dynamo striker Ismael Bangoura went close when presented with an opportunity as Fenerbahce goalkeeper Volkan Demirel raced from his line and missed his kick.
Home coach Luis Aragones - who won Euro 2008 with Spain - is already under pressure in Turkey, but his side failed to show much improvement from the display which led to the defeat against Porto.
After the interval, however, Fenerbahce started well and captain Alex dragged narrowly wide following a scramble in the Dynamo 18-yard area.
But the first-half frustrations of the Turkish side continued and former Bury, Brighton and Sheffield United player Colin Kazim-Richards was booked for an ugly lunge on Badr El Kaddouri.
Fenerbahce continued to dominate possession, but they failed to seriously test Stanislav Bogush in the Dynamo goal as the match ended with honours even.
