Macclesfield defeated League Two rivals Port Vale 3-1 in their FA Cup second-round tie at Vale Park.

A Francis Green brace and a late Martin Gritton goal were enough to set up a possible third-round clash with Premier League opponents as Vale could only respond through Louis Dodds.

The visitors took the lead in the ninth minute when Green fired home following Gritton's header.

But Dodds briefly pulled Vale level on 71 minutes as Dean Glover's men made a comeback.

The Silkmen were not to be denied, though, and Green put his side back in front on 73 minutes.

Gritton then made sure Macclesfield will be in the hat for Sunday's draw as he netted a third on the stroke of full-time.
