A double from Jack Lester sent Chesterfield on their way to a deserved 3-0 victory over Rochdale which keeps them in the race for the League Two play-off places.

Lester's brace took his tally to 19 goals for the season before Gregor Robertson rounded off a fine display from the home side with a third in the 86th minute.

Chesterfield had been the better side in the first half and went close in the third minute when Dale goalkeeper Frank Fielding had to beat down an effort from Lewis Montrose.

Lester also shot narrowly wide before a defensive blunder allowed the home side to take a 34th-minute lead. Tom Kennedy's sliced clearance was left by Simon Ramsden and Lester pounced to fire home from 12 yards.

Rochdale looked sharper at the start of the second half but Lester increased the Spireites' lead on the hour with a clever turn and finish from just inside the penalty area.

The visitors had their moments without creating any clear-cut chances and Robertson sealed victory with four minutes left when a clever back heel by Lloyd Kerry sent him through to score from 15 yards.
