Clive Platt scored a late equaliser to save Colchester's blushes against Exeter by securing a 2-2 draw.

The Grecians coped better with the rain-sodden pitch in the first half and almost went ahead inside the opening minute when Stuart Fleetwood inexplicably hit the post from four yards.

Marc Tierney then cleared Fleetwood's close-range effort off the line, but the former Cardiff trainee made no mistake in the sixth minute, latching onto Marcus Stewart's pass to slot home.

Colchester were back on level terms four minutes from the break when Platt headed in Tierney's cross from four yards, but Ryan Harley curled a 25-yard free-kick into the top corner to restore Exeter's lead in first-half stoppage-time

The hosts enjoyed more of the possession in the second half and finally levelled when Platt ran on to substitute Steven Gillespie's pass and finished in style

Colchester substitute Medy Elito was then shown a straight red card for his lunge on Bertie Cozic as the spoils were shared.
