Macclesfield substitute Matt Tipton rescued a point for his side as they drew 1-1 at Accrington to continue their unbeaten run in Keith Alexander's memory.

The Macc boss tragically died a week ago and since then the Silkmen have won at Hereford and now earned a good point at promotion-chasing Stanley.

Macc were unlucky in the first half when Lee Bell made something out of nothing, with his 20-yard strike hitting the crossbar with Reds keeper Ian Dunbavin beaten.

Stanley did press, though, and Macc goalie Jon Brain kept out a Jimmy Ryan strike while John Miles and Michael Symes both had shots blocked as they looked for a breakthrough.

Action

The game burst to action 10 minutes after the restart when Stanley defender Darran Kempson saw a fierce header kept out by Brain while, minutes later, Chris Turner fed in a cross and Dean Winnard's downward header hit the inside of the post and rebounded into the keeper's grateful arms.

But the Reds took a lead they deserved on 65 minutes when Macc's Ross Draper dallied with the ball on the edge of the area, and Billy Kee pounced to fire home from the edge of the box.

However, Phil Edwards was judged to have handled in the area on 78 minutes and Tipton struck home the penalty off the post.
