Right, thanks for joining me for this Capital One Cup clash. So close from Morecambe, but in the end the Ameobi brothers settled it. Night all
Steve via email: Happy with the win but not the performance. We need to find better players and soon....
Any final tweets or emails? Newcastle fans happy with the win? What about Morecambe fans, how are you feeling?
There we go!! Newcastle survive, just. It took them 84 minutes to break their opponents down, but experience showed in the end. Morecambe could have easily had a goal or two of their own, but they should be extremely pleased with their performance anyway
So harsh on Morecambe now. Sammy picks it up on the halfway line, has lots of space to run into because of all the Morecambe player upfield. He takes it around Parrish brilliantly before chipping it over Roche with his right foot. Super finish
Morecambe just firing it into the box, but they can't get on to the end of it. It's not looking good for them
Good punch out by Elliot! Crossed back in by Williams superbly, but dealt with again. It's all Morecambe still!
3 minutes of injury time to be played. Can Morecambe find an equaliser? Only time will tell, not that they have a lot of that
Fisticuffs between Shola and Kenyon! The Newcastle forward fouls Diagne, and Kenyon isn't happy. It calms down soon enough, though
5 minutes plus injury time to find an equaliser. The way they've been playing, you wouldn't put it past them. They deserve one as well
Heartbreaker!! Shola turned his man brilliantly on the edge of the box, before firing a shot into the corner off the legs of Hughes. So harsh on the home team!
A record crowd at the Globe Arena tonight, 5,375 people venturing out to watch this entertaining clash
How have Morecambe survived this?? A pair of brilliant crosses from Marveaux are dealt with brilliantly, before Sammy tries to place a shot but it spins inches wide
Gosling! Shot block from 20 yards. But it falls to Sammy, who is fouled on the left to let Marveaux whip in a free kick...
Break from Newcastle sees Sammy play in his brother, but Shola is surprisingly bullied off it and Morecambe can get rid
Good passage of play from the home side. A couple of crosses go in, the second headed back across goal by Kenyon, but no one is there
Neither team able to find a breakthrough thus far, we could be heading for extra time and penalties at this rate
Pete, who I've just noticed is currently in Canada, is on Twitter again: struggling against a lg2 side. If this doesn't scream "invest in better players and management" I don't know what will #nufc
So close! Dummett tries a 30 yarder after being given space to run, and his shot swerves inches wide of Roche's goal
Williams tries his luck from 25 yards after being given too much space, but his shot is dragged a few yards wide
Sampson with an ambitious effort! A long ball is flicked on to him, and he tries to lob Elliot from all of 35 yards. The ball goes way over though
Hatem Ben Arfa is getting prepped on the sideline. Pardew will really have been hoping he didn't have to turn to him
A long ball towards Shola nearly causes a mix-up at the back, but the big attacker can't quite crane his neck enough to reach the ball before Roche
Hughes gives Sampson the ball in the box, but he can't quite set himself properly and his turn-and-shot goes over
Ben Foster (not the goalkeeper) on Twitter: It's bad enough not being able to score after two Premier league games but to not score against a league 2 side is shocking
Ellison with a marauding run down the left, but his cross is cleared and the home side have a throw in a dangerous position
Shola find himself in a lot of space and tries a 30-yard shot with his left, but Roche watches it wide
Fantastic close control by Gosling, who traps it as it comes into the box. His cross is then put out for a corner, but Morecambe defend it well
Chance! The free kick is aimed towards Shola, but it's cleared temporarily. It then breaks to Marveaux in acres of space, but his first-time shot flies well over. He should have done much better there
Speak of the devil. Sammy takes it brilliantly passed two defenders, but is floored as he tries to cross. Free kick in a dangerous crossing position on the wide left
Sammy Ameobi has looked very lively down the left, he's just struggling when he has to decide whether to pass or keep running. Newcastle's best player so far
Morecambe have a free kick on halfway after Sammy Ameobi decides to throw a Morecambe player to the ground. Nothing comes of it, mind
Close! Sampson tries an ambitious shot using the outside of his boot. The ball goes just wide of Elliot's net though
Ameobi plays in Dummett, but his driven cross is straight at Boche. Encouraging for the Premier League side
Newcastle are working their way back into this match, but Morecambe's defence holding extremely well
Curtis on Twitter: loads of Pardew out coming through on twitter, but the players can't be let off for their lack of performance and heart!
You have to say, that was easily their best chance of the match and the experienced Ameobi has wasted it. If he had been given a second or two to get it on his right foot he may have done better, though
Oh Shola!! He's been played through, narrowly beating the offside trap, but he fires his left-footed shot into row Z
Tentative start by both sides, neither wanting to concede in the opening exchanges of the second half. Newcastle having more possession though
Newcastle enjoying the first attack of the half, again down the left, but they can't do anything meaningful with it and it rolls out for a goal kick
Pardew making a much-needed change, big Shola Ameobi on for Vuckic. This won't get confusing at all...
Joseph on Twitter: Pardew needs to take these cup games more seriously. We're craving a trip to Wembley but he treats the domestic cups as a joke.
Not a lot of love for Pardew tonight. Liam on Twitter: Feel sorry for Newcastle. They have another 7 years of Pardwho #magsgoingdown
Newcastle have somehow had 59% possession. The stats are most definitely lying here, Morecambe have been the better side by more than a bit
So, 0-0. You'd have to say Morecambe have had the better chances, and if not for Dan Gosling, they could be 2 up. Newcastle look decent in their build-up play, but struggling to apply anything like a finish
Connor has got in touch again on Twitter, and I get the feeling he isn't happy: So much for my 8-5. Which team are a Premier League again?
Steve via email: As much as i want NUFC to do well in all games i feel we need to concentrate on the League games
Pete the joker is back on Twitter, although he's more serious this time: really makes me wonder if Pardew actually does any preparations in training.. Walking through way too easily, def problems
It's been pointed out to me on Twitter by Adam Carter that I called Newcastle and Sunderland 'north-west' sides. They are of course north-east sides, and I'm going to go study a map after the match
There goes the whistle for half time. A lot closer than I think many people expected, and Morecambe may have just edged the half
Half-time drawing ever closer, and Newcastle feel comfortable holding on to it for the next minute or so
Morecambe having the better of the chances, and possession, and you feel if anyone will score in the next 3 minutes or so before half time, it'll be them
It's down the left again from Newcastle. Good tries a cross but it's blocked, possibly by a hand. Nothing given though, and corner Newcastle
The corner is punched clear by Roche doing his best impression of Superman, and Ameobi slices an attempted shot well wide
Since Cabaye isn't on though, Bigirimana takes it. It's Ronaldo-esque, but it's also a simple save for Roche and Newcastle have a corner
Newcastle have a free kick 35 yards out. Can they break the deadlock. I think we all know who would be a perfect player to take this...
Amond is put through again! It's getting too easy for the home side to get through. Elliot makes another good save though, and punches the rebound clear just before Amond can have a second bite at the cherry
Another corner for Morecambe results in a goalmouth scramble, but it's eventually stabbed clear. More worrying signs for the away side
Good save!! Amond is played in on the right, but he has a narrow angle. He still unleashes a powerful shot, stinging the palms of Elliot. Worrying for Newcastle that he was able to get through so easily
Newcastle spend a minute dilly-dallying around their own area, nearly losing it twice, before Debuchy whacks it clear to the offside Gouffran
Debuchy has it on the right, free header! But Gosling's header lacked any real power and Roche makes a simple save to his right
The lively Ameobi has another cross blocked on the left. Morecambe have to be looking to correct that soon since it's been Newcastle's main form of penetration so far
Exciting stuff here so far, but neither side able to find the breakthrough. Morecambe can feel very unlucky they aren't 2 up though
It's happened again!! Amond at the near post this time, but Gosling again stops it on the line! This would have been one for the Goal Decision System, but replays show Gosling stopped it just before the whole of the ball had crossed the line
Sampson tries a cheeky reverse pass, but it is dealt with and Morecambe have corner. We know what happened last time!
Good plays a ball out wide to Debuchy, and his cross is met by Marveaux, but he miscues his header and it flies yards wide
Marveaux plays a good ball over the top to Vuckic, but a fantastic tackle from Parrish stops him in his tracks
Diagne clatters into Debuchy as they go up for a header. No foul, although the Frenchman feels aggrieved after being hit for a second time in a matter of minutes
Bit of a goalmouth scramble in the Newcastle box, but no-one can get a shot away and the away side are able to clear
Pete on Twitter, ever the joker: when you said Ameobi used his pace to beat his man, I was shocked! Then realized its Sammy you're talking about #nufc
This could spell trouble. Fleming has gone in late on Debuchy, and the referee has a decision to make here
Off the line!!!! The corner floats to the back post where Hughes heads it goalwards, but Gosling is on the line to keep it out! So close to 1-0
Good attack from Morecambe! Some neat passing play evades all the Newcastle defenders, but eventually Yanga-Mbiwa hammers it away for a corner
A misunderstanding in the Newcastle defence lets Fleming in! His shot from the edge of the box lacks any power though, and is comfortably saved by Elliot
Sampson has the ball on the left wing, and tries a clever pass with the outside of his boot. Unfortunately for him, it dribbles comfortably into the hands of Elliot
Chance for Gosling! Ameobi uses his pace to beat his man on the wing, but his cross is just too high and Gosling heads wide
No early chances to speak of, but Newcastle dominating possession. They pump it into the box but it's easily dealt with
Both teams in their home kits tonight - Morecambe in red with white sleeves, Newcastle in their classic black and white stripes
Remember, keep tweeting me @tinyliney throughout the match. Or alternatively, my email is firstname.lastname@example.org
Less than 10 minutes to go until kick-off now. The Globe Arena is getting full, with the majority of fans hoping to witness a giant-killing
Newcastle entered at the third round last year as they took part in the Europa League, but couldn't progress further as they went down 2-1 away to Man United
Morecambe reached this stage of the tournament last year, before being beaten 2-0 by another north-east side, Sunderland
Of course, this is Newcastle's first match in this year's tournament, starting in the second round by virtue of being in the Premier League.
If you can cast your mind back to three weeks ago, the first round, you may remember Morecambe pulling off an upset by dramatically beating Wolves 1-0. They'll be hoping for a similar result today, undoubtedly.
Newcastle, meanwhile, haven't fared particularly well either. A 4-0 loss to Man City in their opening game, followed by a point at home to West Ham on Saturday doesn't inspire confidence for the visitors. Nonetheless, they will be expecting to win this game
It's been a tough start to the League 2 season for Morecambe, although Saturday's 2-0 win over Exeter City, their first of the campaign, should give them hope of an upset tonight
On the bench for the Shrimps tonight: Arestidou, Threlfall, Kenyon, Marshall, McCready, McGee, Mwasile
Morecambe's line-up as follows: Roche, Hughes (c), Diagne, Wright, Sampson, Williams, Ellison, Drummond, Fleming, Parrish, Amond
On the bench for Newcastle tonight: Alnwick, Santon, Streete, Anita, Sissoko, Ben Arfa, Shola Ameobi
Still no Yohan Cabaye, but Curtis Good makes his Newcastle debut today with the Magpies lining up in a 4-2-3-1 formation: Elliot; Debuchy, Yanga-Mbiwa (c), Good, Dummett; Bigirimana, Gosling; Sammy Ameobi, Vuckic, Marveaux; Gouffran
