Benjamin Moukandjo bagged a second-half brace as Nancy moved out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone with a 3-1 win over Evian.

Benjamin Moukandjo bagged a second-half brace as Nancy moved out of the Ligue 1 relegation zone for the first time since September with a 3-1 victory over Evian. Les Chardons have been firmly rooted in the bottom three for most of the season but they continued their recent resurgent run today. Paul Alo'o put them ahead midway through the second half and although Saber Khelifa levelled just after the half hour, Moukandjo struck in the 65th and 79th minutes to extend Nancy's unbeaten run to five matches. The win moves Nancy up to 17th - level on points with Evian - although they are just a solitary point above Sochaux. They had the first opportunity with Djamel Bakar firing over from the edge of the box while at the other end, Nancy goalkeeper Damien Gregorini made a good reflex save from Khelifa's strike. It was Nancy who broke the deadlock, however, with Romain Grange crossing low from the right and picking out Alo'o, who fired across Evian goalkeeper Bertrand Laquait in the 21st minute. They were close to going two goals to the good when Laquait was somehow able to keep out another effort from Alo'o. And it proved a timely save as Khelifa levelled in the 33rd minute with a low shot from inside the area following a wonderful cross from Milos Ninkovic's superb cross. That was their last sight at goal, with chances few and far between in the second half. Nancy were nearly back in front just before the hour but Laquait made another fine save after Sebastien Puygrenier was allowed a free header. But there was nothing Evian's shot-stopper could do when, in the 65th minute, the unmarked Moukandjo gave Nancy the lead again with a cool volley from Thomas Mangani's corner. And Evian's defenders were punished from a set-piece once more, Romain Grange with the corner finding Moukandjo, who rose highest to powerfully head home.
