Magpies aim to stay unbeaten at St James' Park

Newcastle will aim to maintain their unbeaten home record when they host high-flying Everton on Sunday. The Magpies were beaten 3-1 at Manchester City last weekend but they have been in fine form at St James' Park this season. They will be confident of pushing into the top eight with victory over David Moyes' side, having not lost to Everton on Tyneside since 2000. Michael Owen has been named in the England squad for the upcoming Euro 2008 qualifiers against Estonia and Russia, just days after undergoing surgery. Sam Allardyce has made it clear he does not want Owen to play until he is 100 per cent fit, but is set to include the striker in his squad. Obafemi Martins is likely to get the nod up front alongside Mark Viduka, but Shola Ameobi is also close to returning from a groin problem. Joey Barton had hoped to make his debut but will not be rushed back from a broken metatarsal. Shay Given is set to keep out Steve Harper after an impressive return to the side. Peter Ramage, Stephen Carr, Damien Duff and Celestine Babayaro are all still injured.

Anichebe pushing for Everton start

Everton can consolidate their position in the top five if they manage to secure three points, and go into the game on the back of three successive wins in all competitions. The Toffees followed up their 2-0 victory over Middlesbrough on Sunday by progressing in the Uefa Cup, and already look well set to qualify for Europe again. Teenage striker Victor Anichebe has staked a claim for a place in the starting line-up, following his match-winning performance against Metalist Kharkiv. Fellow striker Andrew Johnson, who failed a fitness test in the Ukraine on his injured groin, is still considered a doubt for the trip to the North East. If Johnson is cleared to play Yakubu Aiyegbeni could be the one to miss out after a quiet night in Ukraine. Leon Osman came through the game with Metalist but could be rested after a recent groin injury.
